Buck 124 (old school) vs Fallkniven A1 (modern). What do you prefer?

Both great proven knives from good stables. Buck 124 has been around since early 1960s so it's more of a "classic". Fallkniven A1 has been around since 1998.
I've had both. Different steels, materials, looks and profile, each reflecting the trend and technology at the time. All a matter of personal taste.

Aside from the cool factor of the Buck, which I certainly agree with, on the outside chance you need warranty work or something from the factory done to your knife, I do not believe that Fallkniven has a presence in the USA and that the knife has to be sent back to Sweden. Perhaps not a deal breaker but ...

Well the Buck 124 seems to get the vote from BFs. Now to actually find a standard model. That seems to be more of a challenge than I thought. Are these only made in limited runs?

I do not own any Buck Knives. I need to get one. Here is a pic of some of my fixed blades. I can conceal carry in PA. any length over 7" overall will stick out when horizontal carry for me. So I like the smaller knives. In the woods is a different story.

I think Buck is pushing the "Legacy" knives, that may not be selling as well as they hoped.
There seems to be a number of knives that are unavailable that have "legacy" equivalents....... if the standard knife is unavailable, maybe folks will buy the legacy knife instead....
Just a guess. Tho I have noticed these seem to sell well, so maybe it's just that.

I'd get on a few pre-order lists for the standard knife myself. Unless you wanna spend an extra $75 for an ebony handle.
I believe the standard micarta handled knife is a better knife.

Copper And Clad sold a 5160 bladed 124, but good luck finding one of those.

You can keep track of Buck's website for availability, but I think you can do better pricing elsewhere. Don't spend $300 on an ebay knife. Your patience will pay off.
Good Luck!!! I believe you will like it!

Well I was finally able to find a plane 124 without the limited edition blade stamp. Arrived today - wow this thing is substantial! I was expecting a 119 + but this thing is in another league. What a tank. I'm not real huge on the blocky handle on this one. Cant decide if I am brave enough to sand it down myself...........
