No, that's not what I'm saying.
I'm saying Buck's early knives were a semi- hollow grind with convexing near the edge.
I brought the topic to the front page, See the topic, 'Buck's grinds'.
Joshua's knife has the 'B' grind, labeled in that topic. This grind determines the year. Or year group. Thus, the steel. DM

Looking at his photo, Joshua's knife has 'c grind'. Making it a 1981, with 425m steel. DM

Sorry, I don't know typical size, my pre-1986 is 6 5/8 inches as is the 2015. My early one, 1967 is 6 13/16. I would think the change over happened gradually, 1970-80s...maybe one of the more knowledgeable bucknuts will come along.

The steel above the choil is 0.18" thick. The width about mid-blade is 1.37" and would vary depending on the about on sharpening. HTH

Nice example of an eighties Frontiersman with an "impregnated red birch" handle. Introduced in 1981 or so according to literature from BCCI.

I believe the early models after the nemo also had lanyard holes in the pommel.
