Buck 124 question

...That's micarta Deep60...Layers of paper or canvas or linen impregnated with resins and subjected to ridiculous pressures to form a solid workable and durable material. Very good handle material IMO...I'd love to have a few more with micarta scales myself...

I have a buck 124 with handle material identical to the handle material on the knife in the below link. My question is what is this material it appears to be wood but feels like plastic!

Is that your Auction Deep?

That knife is the middle size of a set of three. I believe it was called the Empress Trio, or somethinglike that . and came in a wall mountable unit with a label Buck Knives on the bottom. I could put up a pic of the set tomorrow if someone is interested

I've seen burgundy and white. I think they're both scarcer than the black. The white more so than the burgundy.

Also Ivory Mastadon (4 ) Sam colt 1986 and Stag ( 40 ) Colt 150th Anniversary 1986.
Not to mention several other Buck custom shop and Klinkhamer ,in ironwood and other exotic handles.

the white that they came in was not called macarta and it is NOT made any more
it was the same stuff that the phone co. used for something and then changed to another thing, so only what was left and it was not much !!! the stag is much more common as is wood ...

the red is verry hard to come by >>>> i have never seen one live and only ONCE on ebay,
in face i dont know any one who has one !!!
how about it !!!!! any one out there got a red one ????? come on show us would you ?

I have had a thing for the 124 ever since I was a kid of 13 and saw the 124 in a Buck display. I saved my allowance for a few months and finally had enough to go and buy one. When the salesman handed me the box and I pulled it out I was very disappointed that I got stuck with an imitation red wood handle (red martica) as I wanted the black handle that I saw on every other Buck fixed blade knife. That color grew on me and it quickly became the favorite knife in my collection (of course it was the biggest knife also). Many years later I traded that 124 and wouldn't you know that it would be a scarce version!

Hasn't everyone set one of those pot handles on far before? :D

I wonder if bakelite falls in the family of micarta. I read that formica does. Google micarta or formica.
