Buck 124 question

Mick ,
email me a pict of it or post it, purty please...

Sorry Dave, no digital camera to post a pic. I think I do have one of the ebay pics that I saved & sent to Joe Houser when I bought it in 2004. Prior to that, I had never seen one, (or the factory hole in the butt cap) so I emailed Joe for info on it. Joe confirmed it was the red micarta & that the hole in the butt cap was done at the factory on early versions of the 124. Like I said it's NIB, w/all the paperwork dated 1973. One of my better Ebay scores. The handles are actually thicker than any of the other 124's I have, including 2 black micarta versions, also NIB.

I was watching that auction, sometime back, and decided to bid on 1 later or find 1 at a show....and have never seen another since:(

I did see another one about 6 months ago on Ebay. It was in nice shape, but no box or paperwork. It's one of those knives you have to be in the right place at the right time. Joe H. didn't know how many we're made, but said they're pretty rare.

so ... which is rarer white or red? i thought white..
well blacks go for up to 120 to 160 new
so .....a red should go for _______$
and a white should go for _______$
what would you guys pay ?

Was it Mylar???

http://www.surplussales.com/RF/RFTeflon-Mylar_sht.html

"Withstands 10kv. Great for insulating components from ground, making your own "Mylar" dielectric capacitors, insulate telescoping antenna tubing as in the famous LOOP antennas."

This is thin sheet, but prolly available in thicker sizes...

what i got today was mal-a-mite and i spelled it like he said it
but i get nothing on a google so i am likely spelling it wrong or i missheard him ( i have ringing in my ears) ...
it was a material that was used to make white telphones out of and was discontuned from use so very little is left

on melamine yes there is lots of refs to it on google
as a table surfaceing materal yet i dont think this is what he had in mind or ment?? any way i learned
mostly buck used canvas and linen black micarta here is a referance image of the two
micarta2types.jpg

buck did use a white micarta and it turned yellowish there was red and a some times used camo also that was a bit greenish and touch of blue tint to it AND a very seldom used brown canvas micarta ...
also G-10 is classed as a micarta also...
scott -yes what is on the side of that 110 is what was also used on a 124 X i have located one but not got a price on it yet...damaged it is
