Buck 124

hohen, the two 124's with the zebra micarta, do they have a two line stamp or a inverted 3 line stamp? DM

David - the one with a regular blade & lanyard hole has a two line inverted tang stamp, the one with a partially serrated blade & lanyard hole has a three line inverted tang stamp. Why do you ask?

Thanks. Because that micarta (Buck termed it Buckcarta) a coarse type was the first type used on the Empress Trio set as well and is dated to 1971. As I suspected the stamp would reflect this. DM

The other day I was at a pawn shop looking at knives. There were two in the case, a Chinese survival knife and a Kabar 1212, they were each $24.95. I asked to see the Kabar and saw it was partially serrated so I put it back. The guy said he'd go in back and see if there were any other knives. He came back out a few minutes later with a giant Buck in a leather sheath. I took it, pulled it out, saw it was a 124 so I asked how much. He went off to look, then came back and told me, "$10 plus tax." I pulled $11 out of my wallet and handed it to the man.

Here's what I got:

I just looked in the "Buck Knives for sale" portion of the forum expecting to find your knife up for sale for $22 and thought I would take it. But it is not there yet.

I would even go so far as to pay the extra for shipping.

Here's one that I got just under $11 with about 5 or 6 others... All NOS...

I love good deals and San Diego...

Maybe someday, not today though. :)

I'm handling the guilt just fine. I do wonder how much they paid for it and why they wouldn't at least sell it for as much as the Chinese knife or twice as much if they went by weight?

Chad when the guilt starts really bothering you,Ill send you a pre-paid shipping label and box, send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you.

Chad, I wouldn't change my story... You paid what they wanted...
most pawnshops don't give you want anything worth anyway...
I got a great deal on mine two... I don't feel bad at all... I paid
them what they wanted they wanted them gone... I just happen
to be at the right place at the right time... Every dog has there
day... I've seen lots of good deals on here... Good for them...
It was there day...

:)

I agree, Early. My "guilt" post was all in fun - hence the :D face. I could care less what other people pay. This happens all the time on Antiques Roadshow. Someone buys a vase for $10 at a garage sale and it ends up being worth thousands.

I say good on ya!I've got some great deals at local pawn shops-but they are few and far between, but now and then I do find one.:D

I figured it all was in fun, so I wasn't too worried. Besides, I have a big knife in case it gets too scary. ;)

I figured all the good knives had been disposed of, it's been quite some time since I've found one worth buying so I was glad to find this one.

I have seen 2 line Nemo's with phenolic handles as well. DM

I love the 124 it's one of my favorites. Great thread, hohenstreetroa nice collection photos. Everyone loves a deal and to find a nice 124 in a pawn shop for $11 was a steal!

Thanks for the compliment, jb, but that beautiful collection belongs to hohenstreetroa. My humble 124 collection is holding at just one. :o

Thanks for the heads up on my error. My pile also started one knife at a time, as time seems to fly faster than we would like the pile just got taller all on it's own;).

Thanks for the photo John of the Nemo's. Chad, I'm dry and don't use the smilies. Still, it was offered in a joking manner. DM
