Hey guys - new here
I have a 124 probably for about 30 years or so, wondering what the value of these 124's are and if any of you might help out. It has the black handle and has a 3 line stamp on the blade. Sheath included and shows some wear mainly from storage.
It is used but in pretty good shape. It's been sharpened and worked on a few deer.
Any ideas?
I will post picutres soon.

Welcome to the forum. Condition places a pretty big part in value. All I can tell you for sure is every 124 I've seen has been out of my price range.

Hi Two Bears,

124's hold their value very well. However, the condition and what you have to go with it will help the value go up. As you stated your knife is in used condition, do you have the correct sheath for the knife, do you still have the box, how about the paperwork that came with the knife? All of these things will help the value of your knife go up if you are in the market to sell it. Post a photo and someone will give a stab at putting a value tp your knife, also check on the auction sites like ebay.

jb---You need to get a plan to sell some of those 124's. The hearse won't be able to pull the U_HAUL big enough to hold all those, when you get ready to leave this old earth. LOL--You have a fantastic selection of fine knives.

TBs, Welcome to the Buck Forum... Nice 124... ITE ...

JB, sweeeeeeet....... :)

Any Ideas on value?

Id like to sell it but not able to place ad here since there is a membership requirement. But would like to get a value from you all.

Thanks.

I couldn't begin to tell you what it's worth but I have seen ones with similar wear go for around $100 on the big auction site. Don't know it those were steals of deals.

Ones that are brand new tend to run closer to $150 or even more depending on markings, blade and handle variations as well as year of manufacture. Sorry I can't be of more help. Really depends on who's buying at the time your selling.

Bear since everyone seem reluctant to make an opinion on your knife...I'll comment.

Your knife is most likely a mid/late 70's knife with a black linen micarta handle and 440C steel. Your sheath is the most desirable of the various sheath options. However, the condition of the knife is poor...or well used condition. The top price I would pay for this one with all its dings and dints is $75 and that is only if I'm really hot for a user 124 for my camping kit.

Best option is list it on eBay. You never know how those auctions will go. It only takes two idiots to run a price up to the point where everyone is scratching thier head.

Here is my 124 I got for my camping kit. I think I paid $85 for it but had to add both the two sheaths so I'm into this knife pretty well.

Hi Two bears,

Like Flat said your knife will most likely sell for less that $100. Not bad for a knife that cost $30 when new and your has been well used. You can send your knife back to Buck for a spa treatment, shipping from you to them will be about $10 and cleaning, polishing, and sharpening cost $7, Buck ships it back to you on their dime. Then your knife could sell for $100-$150 IMHO....sale price is alway a gamble these days.

Yes, I agree with both you guys . Internet sales are a fickle affair . They all want like new in the box with all the paperwork . Any thing less doesn't get much look over . DM

You know, if I send her in to get gussied up by Buck I would probably have to keep it !:D

Thanks for the info everyone, I had no idea the 124 had such a following.

Two Bears,
I hope this not in bad taste or with bad etiquette. I am just starting my collection of Buck 124 knifes. Have you sold your collection yet? If not are any of them for sale now? I have a Nemo and several other very nice 124s. My apologies to anyone if my question is not permitted on this forum. I've been one of those "idiots" who have bought knifes off ebay without knowing the real value first. I really love these knifes and respect the heritage of Buck.
Thanks,
Clifduy

Brace yourself for this... Buck is bringing back the 124 with leather sheath and black micarta handle. Predicted availability is Spring 2012. And, welcome to the forum. Where are you? Please don't hesitate to show a pic or two of your Buck knives. The Sunday Picture Show, hosted by Its Too Early, is a great place to display your Bucks.

PS: I held a vintage 124 for the first time Sunday. Very impressive in the hand. I am eager to have one of my own.

Is this true? I hope so. The 124 is a knife I've wanted for quite some time, but was a bit too young to catch them.

My order is in with Larry Oden, Buck Dealer located in Peru, Indiana. You might want to give him a ping lickitysplit: loden@dka-online.com

The Frontiersman 124 is shown in the Buck 2012 Legacy Catalog #3998.
