Buck 212 and modified 103 picture thread.

Clarify: I should spend "knife money" on something that isn't a knife? I'm sure you didn't mean that.
You can eat Ramen for a week, sell blood, plasma, a kidney, whatever you feel is appropriate. I just remember your posts on trying to use a file when modifying your 103. A 1x30" belt sander isn't that expensive and I have found that I use mine for so many things I never thought about before I bought it. You can get good with the sander and start charging people to sharpen their knives. Think of it as a business expense for your new knife sharpening/knife customization business. While your knife looks fantastic, I have found that it is really hard to control a grinder for this type of work.

You've got to stop sounding so reasonable.

The tip is in the exact same place. I went slow. It gets hot. A couple passes any time I walked by my benchIMG_7090.jpeg
If I were in a rush I would have dipped it in water to cool it, but I wanted to take my time.

Thanks "eveled" for introducing me to the availability of the knife w your post: I frankly never heard of it! Exactly what I've been seeking. So, I did catch this new Dec. 2024 version before it could be retired. What looks "cast" or rough in the image is oil speckling-shimmer. And agree the soft leather "envelope-thick" (well, it's a little thicker) sheath isn't practical. It's almost like a thin fine purse. So now I'm using a common 'bay version for the 103 Skinner. I always add a piece of leather w Barge's to the back of the male snap to prevent handle abrasion. I later may go w the Randall-style sheath (as below done custom for my dad's 102 Woodsman of c. 1989), it's just that it's bulkier. Both knives brass pommel/gaurds.

THE SHEATHS:

The factory sheaths for these are horrible actually unusable for someone with love handles.
Unusable for me
Moved the keeper. Marginally better
Ordered a beautiful custom sheath from a famous maker in the Pacific Northwest
But it just wasn’t quite right. Sat too low. Hard to pull the knife out. What to do?

Maybe it fits in a 103 sheath!? Nope too sloppy. No go.

Hey you know what is perfect? A sheath for a CAPER!

But it has to be the new style that came with very few knives and is unavailable to buy separately. 😞 😢

Final best solution I’ve been using that I absolutely love to use? Sits nice and high. Dirt cheap modified original sheath

I used rivets I already had as a test It looks better with matching rivets View attachment 2638432
Move the keeper
Fold over the flap
A line of super glue
Clamp in a vise overnight
Add 2 rivets.
I too am muffin top challenged. I use danglers, cheap on Amazon and I love the utility.
