Buck 212 sheath issues

Thanks for the clarification. That is exactly the style sheath I think would work wonders for the 212. I personally would prefer a longer drop loop...., but a deep pouch-style sheath would be the ticket.

Those handles and blades are just sweet thanks OH for a look into the past heritage of Buck.
Put today's bolsters on these and they would be even sweeter. I love classic Buck knives.

My red lucite one is my sons favorite. I like the stag ones He’s not a lover of stag. I’m on the fence about the lucite. I like it because of its history and nostalgic look. (Like on that old add.) But I’m not sure I’d like it on it’s looks alone.

My latest attempt to make the factory 212 sheath useable. I had already moved the keeper lower which helped, but it wasn’t quite right.

Playing with it I realized there was enough material to loop it over to make a belt loop.

Excuse the mismatched rivets. They were all I had on hand. (They look better in person) If it works out I’ll get matching rivets. This will work as a proof of concept.

It definitely rides high, but mimics the feel of a 110 sheath. Doesn’t get in the way sitting down or when using a seat belt. So far I like it a lot.

nicely done there.

Please advise when you are back and running, Mike. I will be in for two sheaths, at least. Merry Christmas!!!

Thanks W Wicked Sharp .

I have one of Mikes sheaths for a 212. It’s different than yours. It is very high quality, but I don’t like how it rides on my belt. It is too low, I might as well carry a 119.

No disrespect meant to Mike at all.

the factory new style 116 sheath is almost perfect, but a small 124 sheath would be awesome.

I absolutely love the Buck 212. In my humble opinion, it is the perfect belt knife for EDC and hunting. The knife is short and lightweight but extremely adept at skinning / dressing game and general utility uses. My only issues with the knife involve the sheath. It is made of leather (it’s only redeeming feature), but the quality is poor compared to other factory sheaths in the classics lineup. It actually looks like something you would expect to see regularly in the BudK catalog (CHHEEEAAAAPPPPP). Also...., and this is a MUCH bigger issue in my opinion, it is POORLY designed. The knife rides up in the sheath; the retaining strap is too high; the belt attachment is hilarious; and, the metal snap on the retaining strap contacts the pommel on the knife and scratches / gouges the hell out of it. C’mon guys..., this knife is WAY too nice for a bullshit, cheaply made sheath like this. By the way..., anyone know how to remove deep scratches from the pommel?
The 212 sheath is absolute garbage. I’ve tried the smooth version that comes with the basic phenolic handled 212, and also the distressed version that comes with the new 2022 LE in ironwood. They look like they’re made of cardboard. The knife won’t seat all the way into the sheath, and the strap is too short and cannot be snapped (unless maybe if you use vise grips or grind down the handles a bit).

I bought a burgundy #103 sheath for my 2022 LE 212, and it almost fits perfectly, and looks pretty decent as well.

It’s an absolute embarrassment. I don’t know what Buck was thinking. On a $350 knife?

I've been looking around for a pouch sheath for my 212, as well. I bought one that I was told should fit pretty good, lol...waste of money, that one was - the fit was so loose that, the first time I inserted the blade, the tip pierced it and sliced almost halfway down. (At least I know it was sharp.)
If a decent one doesn't hit the radar soon, I'll probably just sell the darned thing. (In fairness, I'd all but forgotten about the knife until I came across- and tossed - the sliced sheath a couple weeks ago. I know there are sheaths, and competent makers, out there; I just haven't been trying)

Still looking for a viable alternative. Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged Holsters offers a “simple sheath” that I am considering. It apparently fits similar size knives, and it may work. I have several of their products (holsters mainly), and their leatherwork is excellent and durable.
