Buck 250 Saunter

How can I tighten the buck saunter. Getting some sand like feel and a bit loose side to side. Was fine when first got it

You could tighten the pivot using a T10 Torx bit. The Saunter does not have washers or bearings in the pivot and my favorite way to clean out the pivot is to use an air compressor and blast the crap out of it. You could also work the pivot in hot soapy water. Better yet, disassemble the knife and do a thorough cleaning and lubrication. The two body screws are T6 Torx.

Thanks. Not sure I would take apart so I’ll just try to tighten

Thank you. The T10 worked great. Almost sent it to Buck. Saved me that hassle. It’s actually more centered as well.

I'm glad it worked out for you! If it comes loose again, you may want to remove the pivot screw and use some blue threadlocker on it.

Just bought two more 250s, black clip point and green clip point. I have a carbon fiber version as well. And got all of them at significant discounts.. the carbon fiber one has the best fit and finish. Blade centered and strong backspring and snap open/closed. Black clip point had off center blade that was not remedied by tightening or loosening screws so i sent it back to buck recently. Idek if theyre going to do anything to it but i hope they are able to center it. My green one has the same issue with centering and the backspring is way weaker than the other versions i have. The pivot was pretty loose on it so i tried to tighten it and the screw just snapped.. didnt even put much torque on it. The quality of the last two i got really bugged the crap out of me as its actually my favorite design for a knife. Why am i paying over 100 bucks for usa made problems. Now i have to send another back for a snapped pivot screw and im just waiting for them to tell me warranty is void because i tried to “modify” it.

Sucks. I have the carbon fiber one and like it a lot. I had to tighten the screw once but seems to be holding. Not perfectly centered but not touching. Steel is great and design. Wish it was better as well but a decent knife. Should be $40-$50 based on quality control

Yea the quality control doesnt say $100+. I have multiple chinese knives both slipjoints and locking that are perfectly centered and great fit and finish its frustrating.

The extra few bucks for a GEC knife is much more worth it. There centering and fit/finish is superb. Unfortunately got to buy in secondary and pay a few more bucks while watching out for scammers

I own both Saunter micarta models--one in clip point, and one in drop point. I see potential for this to be a longstanding classic for Buck. The fit/finish on mine are on-point. With slip joints enjoying a renaissance with many manufacturers, I think the Saunter is a quiet contender to broaden Buck's appeal.
