Buck 300 series

Well blade grinds have also changed on the 300 Series also not just nail-nicks.The 301 remained flat ground for a very long time.I bought a 301 in 2000/2001 and it was hollow ground not only that the blades were mirror polished.Just last year I've bought a 301 and became partial to the 302 Solitaire.I've noticed the current 300 Series is more of a concave grind. They aren't lousy cutters by any means but I'm giving more credit to the keener edge of the older more.

Shoot.... My rile of thumb is if its mint and in the box with papers, it survived that long. Keep it that way.

Ok, Here is my opinion, it looks like it got a light sharpening at Camillus. Not a total miss but a hot summer day Friday at 5:00, cool drink at the tavern next stop' grind. If it was a absolute flat edge, no grind at all on the blade edge and you wanted to be a fancy collector like a few of the guys here (most really fancy Buck collectors such as those that go to the Blade Show in Atlanta only lurk here) Well then, I might put it up. If you counted on sharpening it up and carrying it then go ahead. If you are not hard on a knife and carry it a while, who knows you may find something else to carry. Then you can put it back in the box for someone to inherit.

If you said you would sell it to me for $50 or even 20, I would say no thanks its not ODD enough for me. My personal opinion.

Help....can you help identify these two different 309's. I believe the "straight line nail" opener is approximately 1967; the other 1970. The first two photos are Buck 309 one side and USA the other.

The second two photos are Made in USA one side and 309 the other.

Navy,

Can you post the photos using something other than dropbox?

Bert

How would you recommend posting other than Dropbox? I tried to insert with no luck.

You can post directly from your computer. The problem with dropbox is that if someone doesn't belong, they have to register.

I have tried posting directly from the computer with no success. Maybe I need to review the "how to's".

Found no helpful information to post directly from computer. Icon for posting only gives me a choice to link.

Navy, It is possible to post directly but I only managed it by attachment from my computer. I did a general BladeForum search for Photo posting. I did learn that the image must be less than 800 pix on its widest side after that the computer did make the photo an attachment.......a free photo hosting site is much easier for me to get a good product..

At the top of the Post Reply box are some icons one of them is 'Insert Photo" I had to go to my desktop and retrieve my correct size photo and post it in a pop up box to save here as attachment. It is not visible unless the user is logged into the site....300

Navy,

The photos aren't coming through. If you want, send them to me in an e-mail at bertlindsay0@gmail.com and I'll see if I can post them.

I created an account for free at Photobucket, Then once your photos are downloaded into Photobucket you can copy then paste in the Insert Image Icon. Im sure their are instructions all over. This is basic version.

I have to agree with what 300 said on the BOS heat treatment:thumbup:! I'm Crazy about my 301 and that I can see only my ATS-34 slip joints can out perform it and of the two only one seems to get shaper! The only negative as a slightly to light spring on the main blade.
