Buck 301 Question (New Version)

Good, I am glad you are satisfied Blues, Now I can go back to Traditional forum without feeling like a heel.....300Bucks

Well, if it'll make you feel better you can send me some vintage knives to overcome your guilt. ;):p

You certainly may...

It's a custom made sowbelly stockman by Reese Bose, son of Tony Bose.

Thanks for the kind words.

Sorry to get off the original topic, but your Sowbelly is incredible Elliott.
Even with all the custom knives we see here, there are always a few that really grab your attention.... This is one of those. I kinda got lost just staring at the jigging

Ditto what 338375 said! That brown bone is awsome! The main blade profile is super nice, I like the high grinds...just a WOW knife.

Blue, can you give us the length and blade steel??

Thanks, Mike. I was very fortunate to get this one. (I had originally purchased a Reese Bose (smooth) buffalo horn scaled Rodgers whittler at the Blade Show 2007. As much as I liked it, I just really wanted a stockman or sowbelly and was able to trade straight up for the sowbelly with another forum member. We were both very pleased with the trade.)

I truly appreciate the nice comments.

Flatlander...The steel is ATS-34 and the length is 3 7/8" closed. Weight is 3 3/4 oz...

...and it came to me with this really nice belt pouch made for it by Gary Graley:

Here's one that is suffering from the dreaded Factory Interruptess disease. Blades unsharpened aslo. Friday afternoon I have met my quota knife. 300Bucks

You do realize this did not get shipped out as New like this right? I wasn't going to say anything, but this bugged me all night. I resent the implication that this was a factory screw up. This is one of those 'Lunchbox' (stolen) knives you guys love.

Jeff,

NO factory slip-up implied. Humor was ment to mean - worker taken, stolen, lunch box, there are a dozen discriptions for theft....... But to a collector who is buying on ebay it is oddball unique. With some thought as to how the person got it and are they still working an stealing and selling on the side......

Just like I have a missionary knife. If I wore a gold crown and walked the white path without sin, I would not buy knives known to be wrongly offered for sale, if I could rightly determine that. I did email Joe the person was selling missionary knives after I got mine and saw the groove in the bolster and realized what it was (groove was not shown). I have given enough of them away to deserving folks that I might be even on that sin......

No problem from me. Just honest critic if needed. Humor attempted, but crashed and burned if you were upset. I for sure was not saying it was a factory slip-up. Will try for clear humor in future. I stand behind my reputation.....but I am impressed you stood for yours also.............another reason Buck is my knife ....300Bucks:thumbup:

Thanks 300, With my QA background and knowing that these are getting out of my shop, I probably am more sensitive to things than I normally would be. That unfinished one and the 450 proto on E-bay are bugging the hell out of me as I know it was from someone on my current crew.

I take all of you all's feedback seriously tempered with the fact that you guys are waaaay pickier than a normal customer since you guys are knife nuts and collectors. We catch a ton of stuff before it gets out of here, but at our volumes of shipments, things do slip out. Even if we are running at a 99% catch rate, that still means that 6000 out of 600,000 potential. Having said that I have everything investigated based on what you all are finding.

Its all good 300Bucks, thanks for letting me vent.

Looking at this a little closer, it does not seem to be a recent version. I can't see the date code, but it has flatground blades and 2 springs(although I can't tell from the pic) which means it was not from my current crew and I can calm down :D

The 301 guy beat me to the call (BCCL).

To Jeff, but really to all,

It is really a good part of actually posting text on the forum to be able to talk to and listen to someone on the factory end. And yes, most of the folks posting here frequently seem to work for 'Consumer Knife Report'........My statement on that area is that I may be critical someday but it will be done decently, considerate and honest. An say I was wrong if I was.......Jeff, please come comment when you are able......300
