Buck 303 date

Nail nics started 84/85. I have a 300 with small nail nic but no date stamp after model number. First date stamp (and nail nic ) is < or 86. Maybe this one with no date is a 85. I have heard 84 thrown out also. Notice also on bottom of first row is a different shape long nail nic.

Is hard for me to tell much difference in the long nic, other than one may be thinner and longer. Going by the two I am looking at one is thick (wide) and starts dead at top of tang. Other is thinner and longer and starts an eight inch or so off the tang.

Haven't paid them much attention till now...

And Cool Deal going Gold!!!!

Others are more experienced than me but I have not given much credit to the size or slight differences in long nail nics or the size of stampings on the tang.
I am guessing that manuf. differences are just random due to machines, set-up, operator, etc, Number of brass scales, handle rivets, wording on tang and location of model number is what I go by for differences. Getting and keeping in order the new models with all the special transition models, Idaho stamps, etc. is pretty tricky also.
