Buck 345 Vantage details?

I prefer the Avid, but there's no science involved.

I have a preference for Sandvik steels because I'm more familiar with them. It's a comfort level thing.

The handle material (Dymondwood) is smoother and doesn't tear up the fabric in my pockets. The rougher finish of the G-10 is harder on pockets.

So, in my particular case, the Avid wins out.

The Avid with diamondwood was the first one I bought since I preferred the wood over the G10 (that's just me). I carried it for a long time and have since bought the Pro also. The Avid served me well and I have NO complaints about the steel in it. Haven't carried the Pro enough to say anything about it.

Now, I just got a Vantage Force and that bumped the std Avid out of my pocket for now. Like the bit of extra weight on the Force and that the handle isn't open on the back since I often got coins stuck in the Avid which bothered me when I pulled it out of my pocket and the coins fell everywhere.

Really though, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them so long as you get the right size for your hand (small vs. large).
