Buck 371 Stockman, Woooo...!

I don't care if they are Sebenza's selling at ten cents a dozen. China is one of the main enemies of the United States and if I have a choice I am not going to help them. I know lots of clothes and stuff come from there but if I have a choice I won't buy them.
China actually isn't one of the main enemies of the United States. But if you'd like to deprive yourself of many great products at great prices due to ignorance, it's your choice.

I used to fret about the China thing but I have come to the realization that quality is far more important than country of origin to me. These new Bucks are high quality for the price and backed by a lifetime warranty by one of the most honorable companies in the business. Good enough for me.

Nolan's remark was complete racism. I have no idea where people get ideas like that. Anyway, on buck's website it states that the solo, deuce, trio, and stockman are 420HC. Am I looking at the wrong thing?

I wholeheartedly agree.

I recently bought a Chinese Buck Solo and an American Case small Texas toothpick. Here's my quick little side by side review... Both have an excellent fit and finish - the Buck would shave out of the box, the case would have been lucky to cut butter - the Buck has better steel (440C) and holds it's edge quite a bit better than the Case - Walk and talk was equal, but the Case has a slight amount of blade play, the Buck had none, whatsover - I paid $33.95 for the Case and $9.95 for the Buck...

Hey men, I'm all for buying American, but paying three times as much for an equal (or in this case slightly inferior) product just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't have enough wealth to buy less than quality goods. I don't care if its American, Japanese, or Swiss. I have to vote with my wallet and buy from who gives me the best value for my money. Most of my knives are from other countries anyways. Victorinox, Eye-brand, Opinel, Rosselli. If Buck is going to stand behind these, I may try one. I used to say I would never buy a foriegn car either, but after the third bad POS from an American maker I bought a Toyota truck in 1990, and it was the best car I ever had. When I had a shoulder operation in 2001 to put my right rotator cuff back together and could not drive a stick anymore, I did'nt even think of buying anything but another Toyota.

Now, lets get back to talking about knives-hows the spring presure on the chinese Bucks, are they thumbnail busters?

Wow, old threads never die!

Sinkolen, when these first came out, C.J. Buck said they were 440C, sometime later, packaging around last December started saying 420HC, so it's starting to appear that they may have changed steel.

Jackknife, the backsprings on the imported Buck slippies is about the same as the USA made ones, which I always thought were just about right, but could maybe be a little heavier.

For those that want to read it, here is a comparision with photos I did on the two series in the Buck Forum.

I bought the 3 blade stockman, Chinese version in Walmart. I thought it was 420 also. Paid $29 for it. Here's teh specs from Bucks website.

Large, three-bladed, woodgrain pocket knife.

Category End Use:
Blade Steel: 420HC
Length Closed: 3 7/8" (9.9 cm.)
Blade Shape: Clip, spey, sheepsfoot
Knife Type: Folding, Pocketknife
Weight: 3.1 oz. (87.9 g.)
Handle Material: Woodgrain with Buck's "Classic Bolt" logo, Nickel Silver bolsters

I got mine about 3-4 months ago so if they are downgrading to 420 it's probable that is what I have. Nevertheless it is wicked sharp and I whittled a totem out of pine with great ease.

"$29.00" Wow, all the local Wal-Marts around here have them for $19.95".

Maybe it was $19. I don't remember but that is the knife.

Just bought a Buck 373 from WallyWorld for $14.95. Sharp enough straight out of the box. Now when sheeple ask me to borrow my knife, instead of handing over my Lone Wolf T1 I'll give them the Buck.

I got a 371 as a gift yesterday, I really like it. I've been using mostly Case slipjoints lately but the 371 is a very nice EDC stockman. Fit and finish on mine are excellent.

I just picked one of these up this weekend. I agree with the bang for the buck aspect, but this is the first Buck I have owned other than a 110 and 112. I am going to give it a go for one month as my EDC, once my current rotation ends. Being from PA, I am a Case guy, but I am giving this a go. I'll get a review up eventually.
