Buck 470....

Well JB Mike could make you a fantastic shieth! I'm going to put both versions on my Buck bottom fishing list just to see if the handle will be comfortable. If it's similar to the 450 for 'grippyness' it might make a great kitchen Buck. As my carpal tunnel is still getting slowly worse I'm starting to hate my kitchen knives.

yep. good idear, Sir.

yes very thick and comfortable grip. relative to the size of the knife. rubber allows some squeeze comfortably. think you'd like it as a kitchen user....due to angle of blade and such. bit too thick stock at the top of the blade but still could be a decent user for some kitchen applications.

JB even tho 'spot' was $11.00 actually finding someone who would sell you physical silver anywhere near that price was nonexistent. The price of silver in manipulated by huge traders who buy and sell 'paper' silver futures that simply doesn't exist. The premium over spot varies tremendously depending on what form you want to physical own. 1,000 oz bars has the lowest premium then generic rounds and up from there. In 2000 when we had the computer issue 90% 'junk' US pre 64 were selling at a 50% premium over melt value. I just wish I had bought $18,000.00 worth of silver in 2006 when it was only $6.00 a oz with very low premiums instead of a new convertible..I'll find a 470 when I can find a bargain.

I appreciate the packaging pictures.

I just got one, given to me by a friend. I’d had one as a kid and let a cousin have it and never seen it again. Brings me back to my childhood and I’m excited to clean it up and sharpen it and play with it.

Does anyone know if the wood handles version is identical in tang shape? In other words, if I wanted to make a wood handle, would I find any surprises under the rubber?

I found the rubber handle on my 475 to be a bit too small, so I bodged one of my own. It fits nicely in a 101 sheath.

Sorry, no tang photos. I also modified the tang and ground away the thumb ramp to make the handle flush with the spine of the blade.
Thanks for sharing.

My wife has a 475 she uses quite a bit. It’s a great little knife. I’ve considered putting a wood handle in it for her but I think she likes it just fine. Maybe I’m just a tinkerer...

As I recall, the tang was about 3/8" wide and continued to just short of the lanyard hole, if that helps give you an idea.
It does, thanks. I also was considering rehandling a 684, and I found some pics of a 673 tang, which is similar. But I decided against it for now. I’ll have to ponder it a spell longer.

My 470 shown was made in 1994, second pic is cleaned up and sharpened. Took a good keen edge on a soft ark stone.

I have two 470's in the kitchen drawer... use them frequently... Even run them through the dishwasher.
Have for years... No ill effect..

In the kitchen drawer is also a 471 that is a little shorter than the 470. It is a drop point with finger grips.

And still in a clam pack is a 477 mini mentor that is camo with a zipper blade.
