Buck 501 Squire quality issues. Should I send it back?

The blade certainly should not be wobbly. Occasionally you will find one that is very tight in the open position but a little loose in the closed. We can tighten that up if it bothers you.
The rivets and bolster material are diferent enough to get that color variation. It isnt a defect unless the rivet has actually popped. You will be able to see the rivet on the 300series also.
Were you able to put an edge back on it for your wife?

Thanks for the reply and the information Joe! It speaks volumes for Buck's customer service having a presence on the forum.

I did get a nice edge back on the knife. That was the first time I had to sharpen it from new. Didnt take much effort either. I look forward to future Buck purchases!

I had multiple issues with a 501 I once ordered from their custom shop. Among the problems were a very weak spring upon closing, excessive blade play, and poor finishing that included very wavy (like a relief map) buckeye burl scales. I sent it back and took my chances on a custom 112 which came to me perfect. However, in spite of my issues with the 501, I'm getting ready to return to the well and order another one since it really is a perfectly sized and proportioned traditional knife for every day carry. This time, I plan to get one with pinned desert ironwood scales as well as the s30v steel. One thing I must say is that one way or the other, Buck will make things right if there's a problem.

So close....

A couple more weeks and you would have resurrected this thread exactly 10 years after it died.👻👻

Kudos for using the search function though!
