Buck 501 Squires - alignment of blade concerns - bad batch or the factory design?

I still have not heard from Buck knives but BRN did. Here is the latest -

Subject: RE: 2ND REQUEST - Buck 501 issue with the 25 I bough in my last order

Mr. Hoover,
I talked to my Buck rep about this. He talked to the engineers at Buck and they are requesting that I send them one of the 501 knives. I will get that shipped to them and update you on any information I get.

Thanks,
Cecilia

I'm kind of curious as to what they will say on this one...thanx for keeping us posted.
I agreed with your assessment , but then wondered if it could also be some minor error or drift in the blade tang geometry, like where the hole lies in relation to the spine or cutting edge...just a thought...lockbar geometry could also affect how proud or shy it sits when open and closed...there's lots going on with but a few parts...they all have to play well together for everything to function perfectly.

Now I'm curious if the 420HC blades on the Custom Shop models do the same thing. I think I've only see S30V bladed ones.

Either way, if they get it straightened out, I'll gladly buy another 501.

I just looked at 6 of mine from early to late and a couple customs, and they all show it to some degree. But it shouldn't be that way regardless.

I did hear from Buck knives and bottom line it is a tolerance issue which boils down to quality control. I have not heard if the problems with the knife are resolved. I did ask to be notified if and when I can get 25 with proper alignment for use with my top end stone. I really would like to use this knife so I hope I do hear from them or Blue Ridge knives soon.

I did not post the notes from Buck knives as they are really a great company and I do not want to appear to be bashing them especially since they have been so forthright about the concers I had.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully they'll get a fixed up batch out there soon. I definitely want to get another 501 with an even spine.

Good eye fishinfs. Custom shop with S30V blade steel. Long time dream pocket knife is now in the material world and simultaneously in my pocket. Love that BUCK Custom Shop. Yes I do.

I wonder why their custom shop doesnt do the 505 and 503 in s30v. Would like to have one of the 503s but might just have to consider a cutom 501. Thats a nice looking knife.
