Buck 501 USA Knife Price??

Found this knife is my grandfathers basement. Says "Buck 501 USA" on blade. I have seen these and some are pretty expensive. Does anyone know the exact price and why this particular knife has a metal bracket at the base of the blade unlike other ones?
