Buck 503; I've had a knife epiphany!

Just a quick update, if anyone's interested. Since I posted this, the 503 has been in my pocket 99% of the time. I'm truly amazed at just how useful a blade of this size is. Like I originally said, I'm betting that a smaller knife like this would suffice for all of the EDC tasks that nearly all of us encounter. And I get it that some guys like a bigger, heavier knife. They are cool too. But for everything I've needed a knife for since I posted this, the 503 has come through with flying colors. I thought about getting a 501 though, just as a compliment to the 503. Plus, I had a 501 as a kid and loved it. It was my first "real" knife, if you know what I mean.

Any other/new 503 fans out there?

I'm glad you like your 503 Prince. It is a great knife. Really nice size for the pocket. You need to post a picture! Here is my 503 and my 55 together.

Yes I think he is just bragging that he has a Buck 503.
Pics or it didn't happen.
Shark,
So you are saying I don't actually need to carry my Holdout one around the house in my pocket on my day off ?
Well that's depressing . . . you could be wrong couldn't you ?
Yes I think you're wrong and I refuse to look at anymore facts as you call them. Science shmiance.
:)

. . . what's this . . . ( I just looked in my pocket ) . . .
. . . hmmmm . . . how'd that get in there ?

I EDC'd my 110 for a couple weeks solid last month (bought new in 1981 or so) . . .
and my little one; my first lock back I ever had.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve carried a 503 daily for several years. I’ve tried to carry larger knives as a daily carry knife, but have always ended up coming back to the 503. I do belt-carry a 500 while camping for any heavier camp chores, but it’s usually in addition to my 503. Even when camping, my 503 does pretty much everything I need a knife to do.

I love the 503 (have a couple of them) and the whole 500 series, but I prefer a heavier knife in my pocket so I can feel it's there. But I do have a buddy that carries one exclusively and says he has used it to field dress all his deer for any number of years. He's sharpened it so much, the blade looks to be the size of a 505, but it keeps on chugging.

Thanks Dave. The 2 material things I love most, Buck Knives and Straub beer

Love Straub beer!! The camp I go to with my wife's stepdad is right near the brewery. Whenever we go, we're the first one's there so we stop by the brewery for a couple kegs and stop on the way home for a few cases...

Wow, that's very cool. I grew up there. My gram lived within 300 yards of the brewery and I spent a lot of my childhood in that neighborhood. Do you grab a few drafts at the Eternal tap when you pick up your kegs? What area is the camp in?

I've never gotten the chance to go in yet. I've heard stories about guys taking buckets in to get them filled up before they put an end to that. I'm not exactly sure the part, but once we get past the brewery on the left and get out of St. Mary's we keep going up the mountain for about 20 to 30 minutes before the turnoff. I'm usually staring out the window looking for elk at that point. I'm a little upset because this is a normal weekend for a turkey fry we have up there but I can't get out of work. Instead of the 5 hour drive to camp, I'll take the normal half hour drive to work tomorrow morning...
