I've got a question about my titanium 560, The lock bar on the back side of the knife does not fit flush with the two handle sides it sets down between .015-.030 ....Is this normal? And to unlock the blade I need to firmly press the bar down and push the blade pass the lock area which I feel it raising out of...Just doesnt "feel" right ???
Thanks...

Sounds to me like something is out of wack. At least mine is not like that. If for some reason you decide not to send it to Buck, be very carfull that it is fully locking, lest it fail and cut you.

By the way, everyone says that the customer service at Buck is excellent.

Thanks...I think I'll send it off! I have a 110 model also which is about the same knife and it has a totally different feel.

Keith,
I hope you will send the knife in so we can fix it for you. I vaguely remember, many years back, that we had a problem with some 560's. It sounded like what you expained is wrong with your knife.
Take care,

I think my new Buck 560 may be having the same problems, anyone else with a 560 have any info?

Thevon,
I would recomend the same to you and your 560. That model was a great knife but some just got out of here with a few bugs. If you would like, send it to my attention and i will see to it personally.

Take care,

Since this thread is running on the 560 topic, I have a question. I thought I had bought a 560, but got what I guess is the early version marked 186> Pat. Pending. It has the hex screw construction, with the screw driver tip on a ring, attached at the butt end where a thong hole would be. It also has a pocket clip made of the titanium and is finger grooved as well. Any info on how long these were produced? I know that Joe had indicated that the hex screw construction was replaced by rivets since he was tired of reassembling them.

The 186 was developed by the same people that developed the Bayonet and the BuckMaster for us. They were enamored with the gadget factor. We had so many complaints and returns with product that customers could not get back together again, and the issue of customers "playing" with sharpened blades that we did a redesign.

I would be guessing but I would be surprised if we shipped out that product for more than a year and exceeded 10k - 15k pieces.

I will check into the number.

Thanks CJ! I guess I'll have to continue the search for a silver 560 to go with my black oxide one. I've not noticed any of the problems listed above with any of the ones I've been lucky enough to find.

Doug,

I did some checking and the first Buck catalogue that shows the 186 is from 1987. We sold the knife in 1987 and 1988. In our catalogue from 1989 it shows the 560 instead. I would have been estatic to receive a 186 instead of a 560 from a collectors point of view. The 186 is much more rare, (we made about 16,000) and definetely more unique than the 560. Another variation of unknown quantity is the model 560 with a 186 blade!
Hope this helps,

I've got another variation: a 186 with a 560 blade.

Years ago the tip of my 186 broke off. Recently I wanted to restore it to its former glory. I was able to order a new blade for it. Not bad for a knife I bought back in 1987!

Today my new blade arrived, not a 186 but a 560 blade. It fits, but opening and closing is difficult. The new 560 blade is approx. 0.1mm thicker than the old 186 blade. I think it will wear down to the right thickness with use.

Bert,

Sounds like you have a collectible knife now!
I would recomend that you keep it oiled and it should work in quite good.

Take care,

They're not the same? I guess that's another reason I can't restore my 186 to original condition. (Not that I really care much.)

A question regarding the 560. I see that they are advertised on the Buck web site, does this mean they are still available?

Joh,

Considering that they were jsut discontinued, i would think that you should be able to find one on a dealer's shelf somewhere. Let you fingers do the walking and call around.

Take care,

That worked for me I picked up a new gray 560, 98 model from a local gun dealer last week for $50 because it didn't have a sheath
