Buck 639 fieldmate

I had drooled over this knife when I was growing up, by the time I was old enough to get one they were discontinued. I have one now thanks to my uncle Matt, along w/ a nice 119. my question is how old are they and when were they discontinued?

Mine is the "X" year model, 1990, that's all I know.

All of the Buck Knives date stamps from 1986 to 2005 can be found on this web page. My Model 639 has a < stamped next to it, which makes it a 1986 version.
