I have the 881 which is the now discontinued Mini version of the 880. These are overbuilt knives with thick liners in them and thick blades. Certainly above and beyond what you will find in most competitor products. I really like mine but in truth the blade is so thick that it doesn't slice very well. If you do a lot of food prep chores with your folder a thinner blade may be more suitable. For slicing apple up to put in my oatmeal it really was less than desired for the way it just broke it apart rather than dice it up. Don't get me wrong it worked but the blade is more like a sharpened pry bar in thickness on these giants.
The lock on my 881 is .065" thick. Which when compared to say a mini Commander by Emerson at .050 thick or even the full size version of any Emerson, BenchMade, or Spyderco liner lock the Buck/Strider 880 and 881 stand out for being heavy and thick for both blade and liners. The G10 scales on the one I have are excellent and grippy without being abrasive. I really like that the best of everything else.
Yep, they are made in USA and they are alot of knife for the money. Good steel, good heat treat, great customer service from Buck, and a tank of a knife. A first production run BG-42 is my EDC, can't say enough good about this knife....Jim
