Buck 888 not the real deal

I was able to get in touch with Buck today and one of the good folks in the Warranty Dept. took a look at my pictures and told me, with 98% certainty, that the knife is a fake. I have taken down the listing on eBay. I'm leaving the pictures here so that folks can look at it and read about it to determine if their own knives, or knives they are thinking about buying, are fakes. He wouldn't say exactly why he was almost 100% certain why this one is a fake - but I have a feeling that the issues discussed here were involved

Thanks to everyone for their helpful advice and comments.

Xeodguy,

Send Joe Houser a message from the forums. It may take him a while to respond so don't fret. Ask him if you can send it to him for inspection. Then you will know for sure if it's real or fake.

I have sold on Ebay for about 5 years and there is a mix of people . He may not have known and just wanted to return it. Knife Looks good to me.

I sent Joe a PM a few days ago and haven't heard back from him, which is why I contacted Buck directly. I have been selling on eBay for a little more than 15 years, and as a general rule, if I have any reason to doubt the authenticity of an item I am selling, I will end the auction until I am sure. I realize 98% isn't 100%, but it's close enough for me to end the auction. I might be a bit overly cautious, but it's just the way I am. You may well be right, and the knife is real, and I'm making a mistake. It won't be the first time I've ever done that. Thank you both for your help, and best wishes with your collecting.

You didn't want the knife before so just sell it as a fake/counterfeit make it very obvious. That would probably do more to enlighten the general public and make them think twice about other knives.

I was hoping it would be real. I have two with the same stamp and sheath. on the positive side, I also have two that i'm 98% sure are the real deal.

I also have one with the same stamp, but the date on the box is 05/03/05. Same box though. It is etched on the blade with" Department of the Navy United States of America" with the Navy Seal. I'm not too sure the Chinese are going to go to that much trouble. I've always thought it was the real thing and until I hear different from Joe, I'll still think that.
