Hello all! I am a new member to the forum, but have read many of your threads over the past year or so and find all the forum membership to be very knowledgeable, educating and helpful.

I'd like to get some feedback on what you think of the Buck Alpha Hunter (folder) Model 277 with Rosewood handles and ATS-34 blade? I was thinking of using this for a work knife. Your opinions and comments will be greatly appreciated. I own other Buck 110's, but they are too nice to be used for work knives.

Thanks,

Chuck

I have this knife. It is one of my favorite's from Buck. It has a very solid feel, awesome action. The blade snaps out very smoothly and with lightning like authority. I absolutely love it. I usaully take it with me when I go to the woods.

Its on the heavy side and its too big for pocket cary in my own opinion. If I was allowed to carry a knife sheath on my belt at work, this blade would be in my EDC rotation. Sadly, I am not...

Oh - and welcome to the forums. If you are trying to save money and spend more time with your wife - then QUIT this forum!!!.... :)

Ya....what delrio said!!! The Alpha's are awesome knives you will be happy with it. Oh, welcome to the Buck forum. Post a pic or two when you get your knife.

Chuck...
What delrio and jb said...welcome.
If you are okay with the size, I don't think you could go wrong with that knife.
Pay special attention to delrio's caution... ;)

Thanks fellers for the input. I like the weight of the knife. I have large hands so I think it will work well for me. I also like the blade stud as opposed to the Spyderco type hole for one-handed opening. It should work better with gloves on. I used to carry a pocket clip Benchmade, but when I would sit down sometimes, it would work it's way out and finally one day I lost it. I'll have to find out what our work policy is regarding sheath knives though.
I didn't even think about that. Damn knife laws really p**s me off. I know it's for peoples safety, but enough is enough already! Well, anyway I think I can pick up one of these 277's for about $40.00-$45.00 (new). I also like the fact that you can swap out the handles. That's a pretty neat option. I also own a original Gerber Paul knife some years ago and bought another one at a show with stag scales. Thanks for the warm welcome. It's always nice to talk with fellow knifanatics. We'll talk about wives and knives at another time (not enough space on the hard drive to get into that subject). Thanks again.

Chuck
