I gather yours is the rosewood handles since I think I remember you saying it was ATS34. I just bought a set of rubber handles for mine off ebay fairly cheep. Might want to look at those for the times you might want to work it hard. I plan on changing mine out during hunting season..

And I agree on the smoooth factor.

If you haven't tried it out yet, that sheath should be either vertical or horizontal wear. I wear mine horizontal and it just seems to not even be there when I am getting in and out of the truck.

I bought a Alpha fixed blade (it's around here somewhere). Like the look and feel but don't care how the wood handle is not protected by a guard where the cutting edge starts.
Got myself a 279 (walnut) and love it. Also have a set of NIB 277's (El Cajon and Idaho).
Typically it's a 110 or 1980 111 for EDC, but I may start carrying the 279 as I like the horizontal case, blade shape, and ease of opening.
Have a "quick open" sheath for my 110 or 111 but that's not good for the steel if you draw it often.
Thinking of getting a 277 for general use...maybe next month I'll check e-bay for one.

Could someone tell me please what BOS means and the funny squiggal on the ATS-34 U.S.A side of the blade .

Thanks

For help with "Bos" and the squiggle, please check this web page. Yes, I could've just told you, but, it's more fun to read about your knife without my spoiling it. ;)

They are great knives & one of my favorites. Buck came out with a smaller version called the Alpha Dorado, which also should be sweet. That's on my list of future purchases & another one you may want to take a look at.

I've just seen a Alpha on ebay and it is stated as being 'final production run ' any info ?

Dunc

dunc5...IIRC that's for the final production in California...they had a first run for production in Post Falls. Preston

I've got a set of 277 Alpha's...one with the EL CAJON and other with IDAHO marks on the blade. The wording is "Final Production Year" and "First Production Year". "Year" as opposed to being the first "run".
Curious if that makes a difference as I do not know how many were made each year. How many runs in a year? How many knives in a run? Why is the sky blue?
Me.
