I got the new Buck Bantam 286 in the mail a few days ago, and I really like it.
I took some picture of it this morning with a Benchmade Pika, which I think is the knife that most people will compare it to, and with a 110 for a size reference that I figure most folks in this forum will have lying around.
This is the largest of the new Bantam series, and LARGE is the word for it as you can see next to the 110. If I had it to do over, for EDC I might get one of the smaller versions!
The knife itself is well put together, FRN handles with no liners similiar to the Pika or the Ka-Bar Dozier knives, made in Tiawan but really well done.
Blade is 420HC and came with a great factory edge as most Buck's do, it has duel thumbstuds and I find it opens easier than the Pika for me.
The pocket clip is metal, but not reversible for left-handers, so BOO on Buck for forgetting us southpaws, but it won't keep me from carrying one.
The handle ergonimics are great, feels very natural in the hand and has just enough texture to give you a nice grip, but not be annoying. The handle also has a nice lanyard slot. Handle constuction is done with rivets.
Lockup is fantastic, with a solid "click" when the blade locks open, and it holds rock solid with no play at all.
I like this knife...in fact I LIKE it alot. As I said, for EDC I may get one of the smaller ones, but I can see this one replacing my Pika in my lightweight PSK.
At roughly $18.00 it a real winner!
