What blade steels are currently used, and what were previously used steels in Buck's fixed blades? Thanks! ( BTW my apologies if this has been asked before):D

The 100 series currently uses 420HC along with the Omni and Bucklite Max series. The Ergo Hunter and the Alpha series are now offered in S30V and 420HC.

Other steels such as 440C have been used in the past along with several others. I'd have to research myself to list them without resorting to memory. To mention a few, 12C27M, CPM154 and 154CM and I believe ATS-34 (for some special projects knives).

The Ron Hood designed Hood, Punk, and Thug are made of 5160. Nice knives, great steel. Also has anybody mentioned 425M yet?

Yes (425M), in post #7. It's funny, I just never even thought of the Hood stuff, guess they just don't seem like a real Buck to me.

Anyway, I'd almost bet that when the OP posted the question, he was thinking of or referring to the classic Buck fixed blades of the 100 series.

I just answered the question, and didn't read into it as to what model/series he was referring to.

Was really wondering more about the older stuff. This is good though, keep it coming!

I didn't think of the Hood Series either but I think The Mastiff's dog photo is cool. I took it as he was wanting to know about the 100 Series as well. DM

Don't forget the Nano that was just offered to the BCCI folks not long ago.

That explains why I couldn't find it. He was asking about fixed blades, not folders so I didn't bother listing the steels that they were offered in.

Like I already said, The OP's question appeared to be a two part question, or an improperly worded question, "What blade steels are currently used". I answered it as if it was a two part question, and answered what steels are currently being used. I guess if you can't ask the question you want to know the answer to there will be confusion. I ain't a mind reader

Really starting to get an antagonistic feel to this place...do people really see the need the need to fill BG-42's shoes? If you have nothing to contribute THAT'S POSITIVE or can't be put in a positive manner maybe you should (@#$%) just be quiet.
