Buck Compadre Camp axe, Whatcha think?

So I see that no one likes this as an "axe" which I understand it wouldn't compare to a real one.

How ever this seems similar a single piece hawk? People seem to like those. There are even a few makers on here that have good reviews I think they were 1/4" and some spring steel, available with or with out a spike. Essentially the same style. At least to me. Would it be better if this was considered a hawk?

Just trying to gather information, not trying to be an arse. My emails come across brash so I have been told.

I think you're coming across fine. I think the deal with the one piece hawks is they are tacticool and they are awesome looking. They might be more for breaking stuff and even fighting, throwing possibly. I do tend to think that a flat axe is really not an axe since you lose one of the defining features - the wedge. However, I think Buck had light camping in mind (and nostalgia) and this might just be a slight power upgrade to a large knife. Lots of people prefer a large knife and baton them if some firewood processing is needed. So I'd think of it as an axe shaped knife, somewhat more concentrated cutting area that you can still baton if needed. If I were trying to make the choice, I'd probably just go with weight. Does it save a meaningful amount of weight compared to a similarly sized hatchet? If so, that might be important. If not, then given the price, you can get into a vintage hatchet for less or an equally useful cheapo off the shelf.

ETA: As others have said, if I was in your shoes, I'd get the H&B camp axe hands down in a heart beat. No questions asked.
