My IBM monitor makes it impossible to view anything dark on a dark background...the blade looks nice though...

Looks like the 916....which was available in several handle materials,Giraffe bone.ironwood,David yellowhorse and some others.

Yes, Dave, the blade looks like one of the 124. But it is clearly thicker. I'll measure it later.

Best,
Herbert

if it is thicker then it was one of the 184 miltary blanks to start with. most likely!

The Blade of the Bowie has 7,5mm, of the 124 only 4,5mm. On the sheeth I found the numbers 908-20. Is that an indication of the knifes number?

Herbert,

This is a model 908 Bowie. They are over runs from a special project for Harley Davidson. The ones made for Harley had etched blades. I'm not sure how many of these over runs there are, but I've seen several beside the one that I have. I believe they were made in the early 1990's but Joe can narrow that one down. Hope this helps.

John,

thanks a lot, that helps. The seller told me, that he bought the knife by visiting the States. And so i think it is to find not very often in Europe. Huhu, Joe, what's your opinion?

Best regards,
Herbert

I asked Joe by mail. His answer sounds like yours, John:

"I took a look and the knife looks to be the model 908. We did use that model on a couple of Harley Davidson projects but they both had engravings on the blades. We made about 900 of the 908's like yours from 1990 to about 1992."

Than I can be proud, finding a rare an good looking Bowie.

Has one of you an idea, what's the value of that knife is?

Best Regards,
Herbert

Hi I have one and the back of the sheath is stamped 908-25. I do wonder if that is the number for the blade. I heard it originally came in the old brown Buck Custom Shop box and a display stand. I noticed my blade is way darker than yours.

Wow, this thread was one of the first I opened at blade forums ten years ago. But why not? Yes it is the 908 Bowie. Yours is an overrun. As Joe Houser wrote these knives have been made with etched blades for Harley Davidson. May be the knives without etching came without case and/or stand. As I understood Buck sold the 908 overrun in Germany. Without etching it is a rare knife in the States. Yours is darker? I think it is the picture.
