I told my wife I wanted a custom 110 for Xmas and gave her the specs, shes great and got it for me. The knife is s30v with nickel bolster and elk handle. However I am very disapointed with the handle rivets, they are sunk way down into the handle like a 1/4 inch. Is this normal? If I knew this I would never have wanted rivets, I assumed they would be flush like the wood 110's.:(

Hi DS,

I'm not a fan of the deep rivets. I bought an LE that was for sale on the site here as it was etched with my name and was not selling. If I were to order one they would never do the deep rivet thing. Contact Buck and let them know you are not pleased with your new gift, send it back and let them make it the way you want it! when you look at the photo's of knives with rivets on the custom site they don't have deep inset rivets. Your wife wants you to have the knife of your dreams....let Buck know they missed that target! Here is a photo of one with deep inset rivets.

Yes, that is what they look like exept even deeper. Looks like there are just 3 holes in each handle their so deep. I can't imagine anyone would actually want it that way!:barf:

Also, I have the Elk handle kitchen set and all of the rivets are flush and look great. Why would they put them so deep on a custom 110?:(

The antler handles are a nice kitchen set . Sorry about your 110, send it in as its a easy fix . DM

these are a tad deep yes
but some how i kinda like the reset rivites
those would be fine on a knife for me ...
have one in my displays and thought it neat

there is a crafts man at buck that does standing frame pins also
another veration i like

Are your elk scales thick? Some people like 'em fat.

If your unhappy with them and feel something was done inappropriately you should contact customer service. Buck Inc does work with it's customers.

Personally I like rivets on my wood and smooth buffalo for example. But I like my stag clean. Anyway, a picture would be great to see.

Another thought, I like to talk to the sales folks. They are very helpful and will take your preference down and make it happen. If they know exactly what you expect, you generally get it.

Here is my elk and smooth buff from the custom shop:

That`s a nice LE 110, wonder who you got that from? ;)

What a nice 112! NS bolsters? Whats the 'rest' of the story?

Hi Clint,

That nice 112 with the fantastic color on the stag came from a SO sold at SMKW. The price tag was only $80 and I have to say it's one of my favorite 112's as the color sets it apart from all of the other 112's in a photo. It kind of....well....steals the thunder and demands attention.

I'm not sure what SO means..but I have to agree that is one fine, rare stag 112. If I ever run into one of that quality myself I will consider a Damascus/drop point/BG-42 ect. blade swap..

It has all been said but send it back to us. Just looking at the other photo of deep rivets and wondered how I would do that if I meant to?

Either the rivets shrunk or the stag grew (which would be kind of opposite of what happens when you heat stag up grinding or polishing it flush and then it cools)

All of you old timers will remember what Baretta always said " And thats the name of that tune"
