Anyone know why you cannot get a sv30 blade in mirror polish finish?
Does it have something to do with the steel used?

s30v is a high carbide steel.
Carbides that are polished loose their toothy edge, making them less effective at being what they were designed to be: toothy edges.

It can be done, but why? It's sorta counter productive.

A simpler reason you cannot get a polished s30v blade from the custom shop is because it's not an option.
😊

S30v absolutely can be mirror polished, and you can still have a coarse/toothy edge if you want.

From what I’ve read that s30v doesn’t mirror polish as nicely as 420hc, s35vn and others. The carbides in s30v are larger and it has a blotchy appearance when mirror polished. The edge can be honed to a nice mirror shine but it will still have a micro toothy apex.

I've read that too that s30v doesn't mirror polish well..didn't think about the reason why just figured makers know what they doing.
