Buck Custom Shop S30V in comparison to 420HC on a 112

I guess so. I tried tellin this fella that they have drop points. They may not have them at this point in time. But they exist.

The two stag handled knives with drop point blades in the photo link in post #7 were only available to BCCI members a few years back (I can't seem to find the exact year right now), and a matching 110 was offered the previous year. A similar 112 with a S30V drop point blade and plum colored paperstone handle scales was offered, again only to BCCI members, in 2011. Also, in 2011, a BCCI members only 112 with a 420HC drop point blade with the club logo and buffalo horn/dersert ironwood handle scales was also offered. Lastly a 112 Boone and Crocket with drop point blade was offered last year. To the best of my knowledge, these are the only 112's with drop point blades produced by Buck. Again, and to the best of my knowledge, 112's were never available through the current custom shop, except for a very brief period (two months if I remember correctly) several years ago and that offering was never publicized except here on the forum so only around 100 knives were produced at that time; a drop point blade was not available during that offering.

Looking at the Buck custom shop 112 and I'm not sure about the blade selection. I've been pretty happy with the steel on my 501 but is the S30V much better than the 440HC?

Here is the current custom shop page for the 112.
The only blades offered are clip blades.
Blade alloy choices are S30V and 420HC. (There is no such alloy as "440HC")

Buck heat treats S30V using the protocol developed by Paul Bos. The result is outstanding.
S30V holds an edge far longer than 420HC. Buck S30V, even more so.
It sharpens easily enough on aluminum oxide or diamond stones. It does not sharpen well on old style Washita stones.

If the knife is for you, then as a knife knut you should try the S30V version if for no other reason than it's something you have not yet tried.
If the knife is a gift for someone who lacks modern sharpening stones, I'd recommend the 420HC.
