Hah! This made me laugh!

Then again..... I have been wanting a Henry Big-Boy Steel in .357 magnum....................... ;)

ok I found out about the knives.

The F. Dick knives she has are from the "Superior Series". She has the 8.5" chef, a 10" serrated slicer (not listed on the site anymore) and the 3" kitchen knife.

The Victorinox knives say "Forschner" on the blades. She has a 10" chef (830-10), a 8" chef (830-8) a 6" boning kinfe (805-6) and two 3.25" paring knives, one straight edge and one serrated edge.

so, that should be a nice set-up to have. the Victorinox 10" chef is beat to hell though. she attempted to sharpen it herself back when she was 16 years old and it shows.. it might be a lost cuase, lol.

If anyone else may be in the market...

Can we use our BCCI discount on cutlery? I haven't used mine since they dropped the Pro Site log-in some years back.

good question. I doubt double dipping allowed though. discount plus 30%........somewhere becomes a big loss for them.

Agreed. Can't remember what the club discount is so don't know which is better to use. I think Buck cutlery is a win-win. It's the one opportunity where I can get new Buck knives and my wife is totally onboard since its for "her kitchen".

You can't use BCCI on cutlery...

That was my understanding too. 30% is way better than 0% for anyone considering a purchase.

FYI.... I also chatted with Breanna as I was hoping to swap out the spreaders in the set (as I already have these) for paring knives. She checked and said because they were sets, no substitutions. Like any Buck order, I am excited for their arrival!

Let us know what you think when they arrive. DM

I am sure they will be wonderful! I ordered the Paperstone version.

Advise from the group....

How do I deal with this?

Since I was on my own, just like my Dad, I had the American made Chicago Cutlery with the unsealed walnut wood handles that I used. They were sent to storage a few years ago when my son gifted me a real nice looking set of Calphalon knives because you know, wooden handles can harbor bacteria. There is one knife in the set that I really like, it's serrated, about 5" long and is labeled, "Bagel/Tomato Slicer" (they all have a label as to what they can be used on), that thing is simply amazing. I'm not sure what steel they are made out of, it says they are "Made with fully forged, premium, high-carbon, no stain, German steel blades" BUT it's more likely recycled Chinese tin cans as after I sharpen them, they cut great for what seems like about ten minutes, then not so much..... Not that I don't enjoy it BUT it seems like I spend a lot of time at the Wicked Edge with them.

My thought...
Sharpen the set up and regift them back to my son.

Am I a bad Dad?

I never liked returning a gift to it's owner. I would just keep them in storage as someone else may come along. The Chicago Cutlery is likely mfg. from some German rosita -free steel. You'll find the Buck knives to hold a better edge. We got the paperstone as well and have been pleased with them. Very trouble free. I hand wash them. DM

what David said. I hate to see stuff go to waste and not used, but regifting back to the original gifter isnt the way I'd make sure they are used.
