Buck Exclusives

Yes, I have seen the "new" model 119 with the stacked leather and bone spacers. To be honest, it just doesn't trip my trigger and I heard there was a lot of cosmetic problems with them when they first came out. I have seen a 119, leather handle, and no spacers from way back, but they seem to go pretty high, at auction, and have never been able to get a hold of one. The 103 I have coming is the only one like it I have ever seen.

When I was at the 20 year event in 2008 at Buck, I bought two of the stacked leather and bone 119's. One is serialised, the other is a FB. Bought one for looks one to use. HL

How does yours look? The one I have coming is serialised also.

The handles in my opinion look fine even up close. The problem if I remember right, was the bone spacers had polishing compound on them. HL

Tracks, I like the stacked leather handles, although, none that I have are Bucks--mostly Case or Western/Boulder. I know LL Bean sells a 102 and a 105 with stacked leather, but I have never seen one in the flesh. Just made a purchase from the Bay, a Buck 103, with stacked leather handle. I have never seen one before and the 103 is one of my favorite patterns. I jumped on it and got it pretty cheap, I think. It's new, no sheath, but I know a guy who'll make me a sheath, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. It went cheap, partly, because the seller had it listed as a 301, so it was in the wrong pew. I watch 300's, too, so picked up on it.

As for BCCI, I've been a member for some years and for some reason this year, my tack fell off the map. I sent in my membership check, it was cashed, I've even had some correspondence with JF, but, so far, no card, no newletters, no catalog, nothing. I'm sure it's a fluke, but, still frustrating.

Any one else ever see a 103 with stacked leather and are there other models out there? I've only been collecting Bucks for about 20 years, but sure have never seen one before.

Hmmm....Missed this post earlier Rudder. I could see how that would be very frustrating! I look forward to joining but I really want to avoid lapsing my membership. Hopefully I can go lifetime soon. I am a member of several associations and I hate having to constantly renew stuff for all of em....rather just make it a one time thing if possible. Funny that you mention Case cuz that's what those leather ones remind me of..Case and Marbles. The Buck's have got to be better though.

If you don't know what to look for or have good eyes you won't catch it . But I've seen grey polishing compound left in the leather handles on 119's and I4Bucks was one of them . Back in 2008 there was a topic on this and several posted pictures of it on theirs . They sent them back and Buck removed it . DM

Buffing compound doesn't bother me. It'll buff out on my wheels. I just don't think the bone adds anything, but, that's my opinion and I'm probably in the minority. I have one Case with stacked leather. The rest are Westerns from good ole Colorado, or Kinfolk, several of which came from 300 Bucks in a trade.

A lifetime is the way to join anything, I guess, and probably should do BCCI that way. Just haven't done it.

Jack, True on both points . But we have equipment and it will only take seconds . Others without equipment would have to do it with a toothpick and alcohol . There were several bent out of shape over this occurance . They pay for a LE and they want it looking like a up grade when recieved . The life membership is the way to go . DM

Yup, that's it! I didn't know if anyone else was watching it or not, but it's way cool. Might get it in today's mail, but, probably Monday. Run, mailman, run!

Jack,

Of course I was watching. That leathery old 103 needed to be with a leatherman:thumbup:. Post some shots when you have it!

LOL, I guess that's one way to look at it. Reckon I can find someone to make a sheath for it?

Rudderjt I really like the spacers for the finger gaurd, very unique. Three aluminum and two fiber spacers, with an early year date. I did not even know that style of knife was out there. Very good score on that Rudderjt. HL

Go Life.

I was able to get a 532, forget the cost then, for a price that I was thrilled about. Plus, it's engraved with your number and will make a great heirloom for your kids/grand kids. Really a one of a kind item.

I think it's money very well spent for a family owned company that will likely be here for many more generations.

I felt pretty sure that is something special, or at least different. Still don't know where it came from or for whom it was made, but I'll be happy to display it with my "collection". I'm still surprised no one else bid on it. Just goes to show you, even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then.
