Buck Factory Blems

Bow,

I'd have no problem buying a Buck blem at all. I dont think I'd have a problem putting it in a display either, as it is a testament to Buck quality that they are willing to blem a knife and sell it reduced for that small of an issue. Easy for me to say cause I aint got a display:p

I've got one and the only blemish or defect I can find is the "FB" etched on the blade! I just tell everyone it means "Fine Buck".

Small black dot where the blade meets the bolster, looks like gunk left over from manufacturing process.

Get a tooth brush and some wd40 after it and see if it goes away.

Whats with the big red dot?

The "red dot" is how the factory identifies the blem sometimes it is hard to see the blem. The blems do have a mechanical defect warranty.

Is the red dot just a sticker? Painted on?

I would bet on blems being cosmetic. They shirley aren't going to let any out of the factory that would fail with use.

I would not hesitate to put any knife into a display that I find acceptable to put into MY display. There is nothing wrong with diplaying that knife for sure....

Factory Blems are cosmetic ONLY; never mechanical. They do run the gamut from almost invisible to noticable, but will never impact the use or safety of the knife.

Great to see Mr. Keys chime in to make things clear! Thanks, great to hear from the company folks at times.

For me, I would buy one without hesitation. Probably would be a user for me, but would really depend on what it was.

Easy!!

Here is a Klinck 124 that is a factory blem. click on the to enlarge.

I've included several pics to show closely the entire knife.

On the next one, if you look at the stag just behind the guard, there is a tiny brown spot. Maybe that is the "blem." If so, it causes no rise in my blood pressure.

Finally is a closeup of the "FB" stamp. Immediately below is a scratch. Don't know whether that was the "blem" or the result of stamping "FB" on the blade. Either way if that is troubling, display the other side.

As far as I am concerned, "FBs" are a real bargain. I would (and do) proudly display this 124.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

I like them more for users and as giveaways. I bought one of those FB 120s at the factory store last month when I was home on leave. Although I dont think it was a steal at 41.00+tax I do think it was a decent price.

I admit to never having heard of Buck 'factory blems'. I buy my Bucks to use, wouldn't mind owning a few FB's. Where can they be purchased?

Klinkhammer rejected a number of knives because the handles were turned down too thin
but i think this is one of thoes which were sold with out the KH stamp in company store
this one i would be inclined to think is FB because of the scratch...
The FB is engraved in i belive, not stamped in with a die

I picked up a 120 General...it was marked down to a very reasonable price...

...???...A store where you can buy knives online sells the aluminum guard/pommel Buck General for $62.95, IIRC...How much more reasonable did you get it for???
