I've been told that this is a factory built knife and not after market. It has a 2010 blade but I can't find it in the catalog. Has anyone else seen these or have any information?

Looks like you've been misinformed. The additional work must have been done somewhere else.

If it came out of the Custom Shoppe or was fancied up at Buck one would think it would have a better box.

Ask for a picture of the end of the box that shows the information on the knife.

I saw that one as well and am reasonably certain that is not factory; it looks to me to be the work of either Doris Yazzie or Wild Horse Customs. Strangely enough, the seller is located in Post Falls and does list a number of high quality Bucks, but at very high prices.

I'm patiently wading through all the old catalogs because I'm almost positive that I saw a 110 similar to that one in one of them somewhere. It wasn't listed as being done by Yellowhorse, just by Buck.

Even if I do find that, it won't explain the 2010 blade. I sure tempted.

Whoever did it sure did a great job.I saw it listed for sale.It Doesn't look like most Yellow horse 110s because of the bolsters.

Well Dave,

I don't know a thing about that knife and have never seen a factory knife that has been made like it. However, I do think you should do us all a favor and buy it....just so you can post some very nice photo's of it for us to enjoy ;)

"Dear plumberdv,

Hello Friend,

You won't find it in Bucks catalog because it is a custom made knife. It is made by Buck for one of our distributors, so it is a custom low production knife. Thank you kindly!

Sincerely, Jacob at ePrague"

Interesting choice of words here with the use of "our", and since the seller is located in Post Falls, does that mean he/she is a Buck employee??

have seen this seller sell lot of odd things
i think they are on the up and up
but dont rely on my thoughts
..

I'm pretty satisfied that it's Buck's work. I have a couple of feelers out and should have confirmation one way or another soon.

I've seen quite a few 110's and other models that were made as exclusives for some distributor or another and no one ever sees them until someone here locates one because they never show up in the catalogs.

A couple of examples are some black micarta and rosewood 110's (50 each) that were made for an eBay seller. Also a solid green bone handled 110 that was made exclusively for another (Ozark Cutlery) seller.

I agree that the knife is most likely a Buck product (i.e., sold by Buck), but I'm also betting that the actual inlay work was not done in house.

I received and answer from a Buck employee who works in the specials department who said he was sure that it wasn't their work. No record of it nor could anyone there remember anything like it. I contacted the seller (in Post Falls) and just received this reply.

"Dear David,

Thanks for the email. I went to Buck Knives today to find out details on this knife for you, and have gotten the same response. I apologize for not advertising it correctly, as it does appear that Buck probably did do the customization on this knife. I was under the impression from our distributor that they were done by Buck. They are closed now, so I can't call them.
At any rate, since it appears that Buck did not do it, then for sure, the handle inlays are not covered under their warranty, although everything else is; the blade, bolsters and liners and spring, and rocker. The only thing that they would not cover is the inlays. It is a well made knife, as the pictures show, and you should not have a problem with them. And so, I do not know who did the customization, and I doubt that I could find out from my distributor, since they probably won't tel me. I don't know if it was Yellowhorse; and I don't know if Wilde Bill is doing things like this, it doesn't seem like his style.
In fine, we were going to place your package in the mail today, but I pulled it out, just in case you decided against it because we have found that Buck did not customize it. Please just let me know if you still want it, or if you would rather cancel the order and look for something else. Either way works for us. Once again, I am very sorry about that mistake, we certainly would not have advertised it as something that it was not had we known.

Best Regards, Jacob

I'm going ahead with the buy, it's a beauty and reminds me of the work done by Dorris Yazzi on one of my 103's. It certainly won't be the first Buck I have with after market work.

What do you think? The same artist?

If you search Doris Yazzie on the Bay you can see more of her work.

She has a pretty distinctive style.

No Bucks, there though.

:)

If it's anyone we know of I'm betting on Dorris Yazzie. I found several Bucks done by her online and I have one. The work is similar, but the 110 doesn't have her "DT-Navajo" engraved on the blade like the others.

Then again......could be a DY-Navajo apprentice gone rogue.

:D

Doris (it's spelled with one 'r') might just have a phone number.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's a Doris on Facebook. Almost everybody is on Facebook.
