hi pahl; Did Buck ever have a filet knife that was made in the USA? "you bet", i'm looking at one right now "OCEANMATE MODEL NO. 127 CAT.#378" tang stamped BUCK 127 USA. leather sheath still in the yellow colored box, mint papers and all. 9 inch blade, over all lenght right at 13 inches i have a few more fillet knives made in the good ole USA but they are buried in the safe. so to answer your question is a BIG YES. take care and god bless

We made 3 sizes of fillet knife. 4" blade, 6" blade and 9" blade named StreamMate, LakeMate and OceanMate.

We were unable to get the costs down where our fillets could compete so we developed a partnership with a golf club manufacturer in Taiwan. We have spent the last 5 years building that partnership and they are turning out great fillet knives, with our design and our steel, that I am proud to put the Buck name and warranty on.

Our relocation to Idaho will allow us to reevaluate some of our sourcing decisions however, we have a good partnership going with Taiwan and they will play a part in Buck's future providing lifetime guaranteed products of the highest quality materials at great values.

Welcome to the Buck forum.... your question is confusing as your knife clearly comes with a letter from Buck Authenticating it, and telling you exactly what it is. If you do not understand, it is an older knife that Buck has refurbished and custom fitted a new stag handle to.... pretty much a factory made one of a kind. The original handle would have been molded Kraton rubber. I will post a picture of your new knife for you.... a sweet find. You dredged up a 13 year old thread, you could have just started a new one.

edit: It is not necessarily a refinished older knife, it could also have been made from a "new old stock" blade found at the factory.

If I could only find one in Mastodon Ivory, it would be my #1 user, that is a nice stag filleter

I just bought three of the Cabela's Alaskan Guide series Buck fillet knives for my boys last Christmas S30V steel a little pricey but very nice knives. I did lower the angle when I sharpened them and am very happy with them they where not particully sharp out of the box. I'm sure my boys will get a lifetime of use from them and I believe them to be USA made Buck fillets.

tom, I doubt you'll start your own topic as Roger gave good advice and there has been plenty of time. Try using the search feature, on Oceanmate, Lakemate and Streamate. DM
