I have many Buck knives, just ordered a Buck General from Cabelas. It has a 71/2 blade. Is that the Buck 120? Any comments about this knive?

Welcome to the forum. Yes, the General is the 120. Run a search for 120, and you should be able read many threads about the General.:)

I just got mine a few weeks ago and have been babbling about it to the bore of our fellow forum members hearing so much from me.

It is a great knife and I don't know why I didn't get one sooner.
I'm saving my lunch money for an older one to put in my time capsule.

Click on the link below and you will see them. I collect 110 knives so you will see a few of those at that site...the other Bucks are collateral damage...renegades that needed a new base camp for R&R.

I always figured the *119 Special as the most elegant classic Buck Knife bowie.
And the 120 General, as a "*legendry design" stretched out of proportion.
I thought it would have been better had the blade width be somewhat wider in form to balance things out a little.
As it is, I found it much too light and frankly, being much too "skinny" in relation to its length; and hence being able to take punishment as a real fixed blade like a k-bar could. Now maybe that's why it's out of the product line these days.

Good points GIRLYmann...I was wondering about the blade width too. That is why I was looking, in another thread, for a side by side pic of the 120 and 124. But, I still love the 120...maybe because it is the first "classic" FB I got from Buck...my only others being a Vanguard, Alpha, huge Buck Humvee (Strider), and a Woodsman (too small for me to consider as an EDC).

Ordered a 119BR, but it's not here yet.

Well Girlymann, The oldest member of my deer lease has been using a 120, General since 1968 to clean his deer with and it is still going strong. He
wears it all the time when we go hunting .He love's that old knife.
Hawkeye;)

Cabellas Christmas catalog came today. Has a 120 in the proline version with what looks like a phenolic handle. $54.99 pg.308

I have had a 120 General or two from time to time,
Liked it alot, very nice knife, but for the deer we hunt up here in WI it is just a tad too big for me to use. I prefer the 119 or smaller (zipper, alpha hunter/folder) I also had the 120BR (cocobola) but just couldnt bear to use it on anything :( Great knives you will love it!!!!!

I bought four of them from Cabelas and with a $20 off coupon they ended up costing $50 each....Great buy !!!!

Whoa, hey Hawkeye 5. That's mighty interesting bit of user history there. Never quite cross paths with anyone who goes back to '68 with a General as a dear skinner. That sure does says a lot about the edge holding quality of the older made Buck knives and a whole lot more about the pre-lunar landing generation. Ah! American made goods at its prime...

Hey,Girlymann , Thanks, anytime. He just would not look the same
to us at the hunting camp without that 120 hanging from his belt.
he says that it's very good for cutting up throught the ribs with.

I purchased my Buck 120 in 1981. It has not been used a lot and is probably not the most practical knife ever made but it is a knife that I simply enjoy owning - I suppose this will make sense to members of a forum like this one.

I've got a Buck General I bought around 1985 or so. I got it at a Gun shop downtown. They've been closed for years now. I like mine too even though I've never used it.

The older 120s have a thinner blade than current production. Same with the 119. I prefer the older models.

How much older??? The pre-86 120 I have is the same thickness as my "modern" [Idaho & upside-down T] two; ~.180".

Maybe I should have said really old! I have two that are stamped BUCK USA inverted. The number 120 is not there but they are identical to a 120 except the blade is just a little thinner.
