Buck Hoodlum Or Ontario RTAK-II 8628

Yeah, I am sure if you are determined you could do it, but it's not going to be easy. I have seen the RTAK2 pics where it's been broken but the OP stated specifically that he was looking at the 5160 Ontario and somebody mentioned they had seen them broken. I'm thinking they have seen the 1095 version broken. Keep in mind the Ranger Ontario line, 5160 in full 1/4". Last i checked you could get the RD-9 for around $100.

I wouldn't buy the Hoodlum. I have the RTAK and if I was serious about using it (life and death) I would have gotten the junglas. I just wanted a big ole camp knife to play with and the RTAK fits the bill...

I used my 1095 version for two years every chance i had and never failed. My brothers broke in a week of camping. I think how he handled the knife had a lot to do with why it broke.

Did anyone hear of the 5160 version breaking?

To the OP.
I can say budget wise. RTAK II. Warranty wise is ESEE Junglas.
If you have extra cash look into Busse Knives or Scrap Yard Knives 911 or Swamp Rat Rodent 9. All their warranties are pretty hard to beat but they are costly and involve a long waiting period.

I have a large ontario, not the 10" but close, not sure the model, but I think it has an 8-9" blade of 1095. I also have a hoodlum. I have beat the hell out of both and both have held up well. The hoodlum came crazy sharp, has a more comfortable handle, and a much nicer sheath. I hate the sheaths on Ontario knives and for that reason alone look to Esee instead, because a replacement sheath will make up the cost difference(although maybe not in the case of the Junglas). I think I would seriously look at the Junglas for the warranty alone. Also if you look at Knife Connection you can get a blade and match it to custom scales. I don't have a Junglas, and am hoping that Bark River still has their Brush knife available when I have enough money saved up because the warranty is as good and they are beautiful. For my beater large camp knife and go to baton knife etc. I use a condor boomslang. I think it is also 1095. It has hit rocks and knots and everything else I can think of and is great. I think mine has better finish than the Ontario, but I have other condor knives that aren't so good.
