Buck kitchen knives question please~~~

I received the BUCK knives on Monday. They ended up sending them to our post office box after all  which is what I wanted to begin with but did not want to pay extra money for. So I am glad that we checked our postal box and not only our front porch on Monday. :)

We are happy with the knives so far! They look nice, feel good in our hands, cut well, etc.

I may order the steak knives from them soon too. The evergreen and slate are very nice colors and I think that I will go with SLATE for the steak knives.

Good to know you are pleased with them, Cate. It's always a treat when the knives come out of the box and live up to the anticipation.

Of course these ones would, they're Bucks!

Cate...really glad you liked the knives. My two favorites are the chef's knife and the large paring.

In answer to the hollow grind question on the chef's knife...we first introduced the knife as flat ground and found that meats, cheeses and vegetables were suctioning to the side of the blade. The hollow grind directed what you were cutting away from the blade. Hollow grinding does grind both sides at the same time vs. one side at a time for flat grinding however the cost difference is very minimal.

On the non-serrated steak knives, serrations are more to protect your knife edge from the hard dinner plate than to add extra cutting power for the meat...and yes the large paring is the same blade.

Great thread and great pictures. I love how helpful you all are to each other on this thread.

C.J. Nice to see you on the board. Do you think you'll bring back the elk handled cutlery set? I pondered to long and it was no longer available when I decided to pull the trigger on a set.

Thanks for chiming in CJ.

I have been holding out on the fancy Damascus set I was considering. Like Badhammer; if the stag handles came back, I don't think I could resist...

Dear CJ Buck,

Thank you for your reply too!

I agree with you. The people in this BUCK KNIFE section are really nice and helpful. The pictures posted here helped me too.

You have a great bunch of people in your Idaho office and your employees make wonderful knives.

Thank you for making good knives. We will continue to buy them for ourselves and for gifts.

Take care.

Sincerely,

Cate
PS: My husband thanks you too.

I'm glad to hear that you like the Bucks you chose for the kitchen. As I showed you on another site, I love my Elk handled set. They are the pinnacle of my Buck Collection. I'm glad I ordered them when I did.

They may well have been one of the last sets Buck made in that style.

I'm also glad to see Mr. Buck post his helpful information here.

Gedd, a very handsome set you purchased. Tell me about the sharpening steel. Is it smooth or has lines cut in it? Have you used it? Thanks, DM

Hey! Good to see you here. (I just posted on the other forum.)

This is a really good picture of your knives. Beautiful!

Have a good Monday.

Beautiful elk set! My alpha dorado has elk scales ... and I treasure it. A kitchen set that stunning would be very tempting indeed.

Sorry I missed your question David, I just went back to work full time after retiring 9 years ago. I hadn't seen your post.

I went to my set and looked. It is smooth, no lines cut in. I have not used the set yet.
We plan to retire to the Adirondack's when my fiance is ready to retire. It will be used daily at that time. Presently I use my Empress Trio set daily.

My son is getting married in a few month's and I was thinking of getting them a rosewood handled set, although paperstone would be more practical as they probably wouldn't hand wash.

Geddinight,

Please check your visitor messages.

Your email is turned off and I turned my email back on here on the BF forum.

It is about the rifle forum where we talk about our BUCK knives too.

Thank you!

Cate
