Buck knife for Boy Scout?

My local council requires locking blades on scout property and any official scouting event
I had been thinking about a Victorinox Swiss Army Pioneer, as it's the closest in tool set to the official BSA knife. However, the blade doesn't lock on it. Back to square one...

This Victorinox has a locking blade.

I have some old Wengers with locking blades.

Some of the newer Victorinox made Wenger models have this feature.

I wish the older Swiss/Bucks came with a locking blade.

The scouts have mostly focused on locking blade pocket knives for at least the last 15 years or so.
On their own websites retail store they have 3 models of Buck's available a Buck 110, a Buck 112lt, and a Buck 722 Spitfire.

I guess I left this thread hanging...
I ended getting a Victorinox Hiker for him. Has a classic (albeit different than the BSA knives of old) design to it, as well as the classic tool set of the BSA knives, plus a couple of extra tools. The price was certainly right, as I didn't want something that cost too much, only to be abused, broken, or lost (which is how I used to treat such things at a younger age). Anyway, it's kind of a cool design, and the shipped price was $24 (Amazon). Of course, since I have a problem that needs a 12 step program, I ended up buying a Victorinox Cadet and then an Adventurer for myself. The Cadet is a really neat little design that I added a pocket clip to the keychain so I can carry it in my left pocket (where it pretty much disappears).
I'm now debating on getting a Pioneer X or Farmer X, as well as picking up a Hiker for myself. Sheesh, I really need some help...

Thanks for the update dpsk! My cub scout just had his soap carving session. We'd gotten him a Victorinox Tinker, that he thinks is soo incredibly cool. One of the parents of some older scouts said that our pack requires locking blades, and my son has trouble engaging a back lock. At the last minute, he dug through my tool chest and picked out a Benchmade. The Axis lock is much easier for his little hands. When we got to the scout meeting, most of the kids there had SAK's. The pack leader had a cleaned-up Camillus camp knife, and a 112. It was a win-win. My son gets to use the Tinker that he loves, and I don't have to worry about my 8 year old dropping a pricey knife in the woods.

Yeah, the Vic Cadet is one of my favorites (along with the Buck Cadet). That size knife is just about perfect for me.

That's a great story. Can his troop use fixed blades? I saw a KnifeCenter video that suggested a combination of a Victorinox plus a Mora knife (I like the Companion).

Good question. I'm not sure about fixed blades. I have a Mora Basic in my tool chest that he could use, but I should ask the scout leader first. It does seem like a really useful combination.

I like the idea of a Hiker. I could have used the little saw on many occasions when I was a kid in Scouts. And with 3 layers it’s not to bulky for pocket carry. If he takes care of it he’ll be able to get a lifetime of use out of it. Down the road, pair it with a Buck 110or 112 and he will have the only two knives he’ll ever need. The reason we are all on this forum is a completely different matter:cool:

I do a good deal of backpacking, and the hiker is a great option... I pack with a SAK, a larger folder, and a buck froe... the victorinox saw is truly a wonderful thing to have in the wilderness. I keep a Farmer on me at all times. it is the most well rounded SAK they make and truly a life saver.
