I suggest you join the Buck Collectors Club (BCCI) There is a thread about it. They have catalogs going back to the 1940's. I believe they have all the known catalogs, in fact.

If you are going to join, I suggest the life membership. You won't have to worry about renewals and will not have spent $60 or $80 before you finally decide to pay $100. for the life membership.

To start.....you would do well to become a life member of the Buck Collectors Club and buy a copy of Story of Buck Knives...a Family Business.

(Sticky about the club on this forum and search Amazon for the book. That Amazon search is tricky, but if you click on the "hardcover" link when you find the book you will discover that they have more available than the two listed. Not many, though, and prices are going up.)

This will cost you $140 to $150 but you'll never regret it if you are truly going on this lifetime quest.

In the meantime, how about starting with a few from the basic old fixed-blade line with the black phenolic handles? The 102, 103, 105, 118, 120, 121s.....maybe trying to get the ones with the three-line stamp.

That would be a modest start on a noble quest.

:)

That is certainly a noble cause....good luck, it will certainly take a lifetime and a boatload of cash and more luck.

I'd suggest also searching abebooks.com for a listing of dealers who have the book.

Thanks for all the responses, I started years ago(15 or so ). My wife bought me my first 112 in 1994, the first Christmas we were married. Its been a ball ever sence. I have probably 25 different Le and other production models. I ahve just really wanted to find as many models#as I can. I have wanted to join BCC for a while but seem to spend the $ on a knife instead. Mabey it'll be next.

Wow I have that same thought all the time:)

When you finally do join and see the knives available only to BCCI members at very reasonable prices, you'll change your thought mode to "Why didn't I do this earlier?!" :)

I'd say make a priority of the BCCI while you're still young enough to benefit from a life membership!! Don't wait til you're old like me!!!

:)

And I don't know when or if they plan to reprint that book, but until they reprint, prices are probably going to go up and up.......let the wise take note.

I just picked up a first edition copy of the book Story of Buck Knives a Family Business, signed by Chuck Buck at abebooks.com in fine condition $38.00. Thanks for the info, I can't wait to read it.

Good for you.

That's a good price on that book in that condition and it will go up in value, I can almost guarantee that.

:)

I'm glad I was able to get ahold of one, If it increases in value, great but I COLLECT for my enjoyment not to turn a profit or else I would be an investor. But thank you for your response BG, I have come to respect your thoughts, advice and knowldge.

Thanks, MB......I love certain knives for their beauty (whether simple and functional or elaborate) but I also love getting a great knife cheap.

I think everybody loves a score. I guess I could be called an investor because I enjoy being able to envision the really great auction they can have when I kick the bucket.

I joke with some of my auction/estate sale buddy/competitors that we're all competing to see who can have the best auction when he dies. I've been at a few already and it's kind of like a tribute to the guy.....and interesting to finally see what he was able to scarf up in the way of collectibles.

We all go there eventually.

;)

BG, Thats kind of demented but funny. you will have to send me your address I think you will go before I do:) mabey I can pick up some of those hard to find Items.LOL

Well, demented is difficult, but hey.....somebody's got to do it.

:D

I'll keep you updated on my health.....so far, nothing interesting.

yea they kind of grow on you
i think i have some watching my stuff
could be because of my health
bg42 is healthier then me so
i guess he would bid on some of mine....
07 collection displays

09 co0llection displays

if my daughter or wife or brother were to put my stuff on the market at once
like as not it would depress the market some
as i have quite a few that are not in the displays..
but my collection is by far not the largest...
jest one of the littlefish collections

What a collection Dave, thats truely impressive. I'm not quite there yet. Some day, I hope, if its up to my wife it may be a long journey.

Dave, Whats your guess on variations of total standard (not custom shop) production only 110s.

Between 1966 and 1990, 301,303,309 and 305 only, black sawcut scale only, standard production only, there are 48 variations (I still need three). Does not count LEs,colors/other scale materials/special orders. Double that at least.

There must be over a thousand total variations over all the models ever made, has anyone ever done a count?

300, Of the early Buck factory knives 1962-82 there are 48 . Just the knives and no doubles for a slight change in the model . DM
