Buck knife photo's

I Googled a few things and it looks to me like our photos belong to us.

They have an automatic copyright when we take them.

They can't enter the public domain for 20 years after the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.

That's the way it looks to me.

Now the lawyers can weigh in.

:D

Folks, if you work hard at making a good photo, the first step is to tag it. We at the forum won't mind seeing your title. It may not legally protect you but your making it a whole lot harder to "steal" without credit.

This is one from PhotoBucket editing......try to dredge up your old art class brain and position it so it looks good but is difficult to resize out of the photo.............you can figure it out easy, I did this one in less than 5 minutes.....The example name needs to be about 2 clicks higher to cut out resize effort. So that they would cut off the knife tip to cut out writing...................300Bucks

If you really want it to pose a problem for the thieves, though.......put it right ON the image where it can't be cropped off.

Yes Sir you are correct, you usually see it in a transparent mode......BUT, I myself would prefer to share a photo that was not "interfered' with in the knife image area. As I am sure you will agree, its all about compromise, a little effort on our part to take away the easy steal. I think BG has the ability and I know myself and others could go in an mask over the letters on my example, but if they want it that bad they can have it......300

PS I frequently mask over dust, finger prints , my reflection and other such garbage.

Most of us won't have a problem with people stealing our photos and making huge profits while hiding that fact from us anyway.

At least I don't THINK so.

:)

I hope everybody doesn't start marking their pics.

:D

I don't intend to mark any of mine.

If somebody does steal your pics and use them flagrantly on a website in a way that bothers you, you can contact their internet provider and that provider is required to remove the pictures.

The markings for the most part will pose no issue for some one with PhotoShop and only rudimentry knowledge of how to use it unless the mark is on the picture somewhere that it's removal will ruin the picture of the knife itself.

We can discuss the pros and cons recreationally, all night long. However, I don't intend to put a copywrite across my photos. If someone here wants to put their name in the frame more power to them. With very little practice and a good photo program you can create wonderful photographs of knives. I would put for example the images of the same knife from many angles in the same frame as shown in BForums photo forum. At that site there are long and detailed discussions on how people save, edit and store knife photos.

I hope no one here starts putting a copywrite mark over their photograph. It will lose a lot of attraction for me. 300Bucks

Ok Dave, This one would be tougher

I had the same problem a few years ago when I was selling on Ebay.

If the person is directly linking to the photo in your photobucket account you can change the photo to something completely different and in no way connected to what theyre selling..

Just use your imagination :)

Nope, not really. Believe it or not, this is the picture you just posted after I used the clone stamp to remove your lettering once again. It only took seconds to do, took longer to load it to PhotoBucket than to modify.

However, removing a mark and then using the picture for gain is likely to look very, very bad in court and make a judge very, very grumpy.

Makes it difficult to claim honest confusion.

Could result in serious consequences.

My hat is removed and I bow gracefully then I take a tankard in hand and say : Here Here. Drink up my friends.... 300

I had an online discussion with a copyright attorney about this issue, and yes, the photo is yours even if you don't copyright it. However, if you don't copyright it you would not likely be able to recover attorney fees if you did pursue legal action, unless the user was making a large profit from it or if, for example, someone was hacking into a private site to get nude photos of a celebrity and then posting them.

Copyright law dates back to the age when print media was dominant and it has not caught up with the explosion of new digital technology. In several ways the law is obsolete when dealing with the internet. Technically you do copy a photo every time you access an online site and look at photos on your computer.

For practical purposes, when you post something on an internet forum, you are giving it to the public, because there is no way you can enforce or even trace its movement from there.

Keeping in mind that the photo still does belong to you after you post it on an internet forum, and there are SOME ways you can enforce its use if you find out it has been misused.......I see that as an accurate portrayal of photo facts.

Thanks, Wolfy.

All we have to do is wait for somebody to make a bunch of money off one of our photos.

:)
