Was this a special run? Rosewood scales, black blade from an 845, silver Buck logo?
My initial vibe is, it is a frankenbuck.

Thank you,
Don

Might be an SFO for some retailer.

I know my Buck 877 Maverik with white scales and made in USA was an SFO for Walmart.
The 877 with black scales was made offshore. I don't know if that is still the case.

That is a good looking Vantage. :)

Yes it is afishunter, I seem to have quite a passion for these Vantages. I am still looking for a paper stone version and a charcoal dymondwood version. The struggle is real. :) The struggle on my bank account, that is.
Enjoying the snow here in Central Pennsylvania.

I don't believe it was a special run. It was short lived because the black liner wasn't popular. If you do a search I am sure you will find a thread or two about this model. I only have one of these.

Took a better look at your picture and your writeup and yes I would say frankenbuck. Handle from a 346 and blade from a 845.

Thank you Ed,
The Buck logo threw me off a bit, aren't they usually blue on these rosewood scales?

I just went to double check on the Buck site and I noticed there is no longer a Vantage Avid small listed. Did it get discontinued?

Seems we are knife brothers, Ed. I think the Vantage is one of the best all around knives ever made. You have impeccable taste, Sir.

Not sure what the story behind them is, but they have them at my local Rural King, noticed them there about 2 months ago.

JD, it is a strange bird, indeed.
Makes me wonder if they are just using up the parts Buck has in stock, if so... what is to become of the Vantage line?

That charcoal dymondwood Avid is gorgeous!
That one has been a tough one for me to find, at least in decent condition. The search continues...
Thank you for sharing the pic!

Awesome, I do hope Buck brings back the charcoal dymondwood, it is so nice! Reminds me of an old, weathered barn...
Thank you for the pic!
