This gentleman just joined and posted some really cool Buck knives for sale here. I told him about the rules and needing to be a Gold Member to sell, so he X'd out the post. He seems like a really nice guy.

He's going to upgrade his membership and go ahead and post for sale soon the one's I didn't buy from him already!;)

So are you saying that you took advantage of the fact he's a newbie and bought knives before the rest of us could even look at them? Or are you just joking?

He probably wasn't a newbie to knives, because he was both selling and looking for trades.

Usually, traders have some experience and knowledge.

I think he just wanted to put up a cheap advertisement.

He did.

:thumbdn:

I reported him as soon as he put it up. I don't think it's wise to reward people who see themselves as above the rules.

OK, so much for my resolve. I had decided a bit ago to never respond to posts from certain posters, but now I'm going to break my own self imposed rule.

I saw this thread and posted a link to the TOS and also sent the poster an e-mail at around 7:36 AM. The e-mail was sent actually a few minutes before I posted the link.

"You should post the for sale knives in the Buck Knives for sale section, not the forum. Plus, the forum rules require that you be a Gold Member (paid) to sell there. Just letting you know before a moderator sanctions you for violating the terms of service."

If everyone will look, you will see that the gentleman edited his post (deleted the content) at 7:38 AM. You should also note that he registered only yesterday. I'm sure that like the majority of those (myself included) who join up, he didn't read all the fine print. We've exchanged several e-mails and and I've seen nothing sinister in his motives for joining. He seems like a very nice guy.

"I hope I did delete it allready , If theres something I did not ,Then I guess I will learn the hard way.
Just retired and I have delt in knifes for ever, collecting hundreds.New to comps.and sights.Old dog ,new tricks.
Reading over policys now. Big heads up THANKS"

I believe that he is in the process of going Gold as we speak.

There are folks here that must be in great shape. Jumping to conclusions is wonderful exercise!:thumbdn:

I'm starting to think Plums official slogan is "I never met a knife I didnt buy"

BTW Plum-well put.

PlumberD,

And I suppose you knew all that before you rushed (er.....jumped) to try to buy knives from this guy? Or did you "jump to a conclusion?"

:D

Never mind, I'm quite familiar with knife addictions and I can understand your actions even if I don't approve.

;)

BTW......haven't seen him go "Gold" yet. How long does that take? I'll be waiting.

Second rule violation (my own).

I was joking about buying from him, I have absolutly no idea what he has for sale and I'll wait to see if he goes Gold and posts some.

I felt the "nice" thing to do was to let the guy know he was breaking the rules, rather than jumping in and "reporting" him right away.

But I do understand that there are some that have no conception of "nice".

Did it cross your mind that it was an odd coincidence that the illegal ad was posted early on a Sunday morning?

That would be just exactly when moderation would be at a minimum.

Would a "newbie" know that?

However, I accept your statement that you were only joking about trying to buy knives from him.

Rather than your notion of "nice," it's always best to follow the rules until we know exactly what we're dealing with.......and I'm still waiting to see if "Brainestorm" turns up with a Gold Membership like you say.

Sounds like he'd be a welcome addition to the forum.

But, PlumberD......he stated clearly in his post what he had for sale and what he was willing to take in trade.

How could you now have ABSOLUTELY "No Idea" what he has for sale?

Did you forget that part?

You remembered all the rest so well.

Nope, never crossed my mind, but then I'm not as hasty to jump to conclusions as you seem to be. I'll give a person the benefit of the doubt until proven long.

Time frame for going Gold? I don't remember, but I do know it isn't instant. Fritz can testify to that. It took several days fro his to go through and I know that for a fact.

Sure, it's best to follow the rules but I'll give the guy the chance to do so before jumping on his case.

I don't need or want anyone's approval, yours in paricular.;)

Actually I did forget. And it wouldn't matter if I didn't.

Last post on this matter, then back to "ignore" for some.

I already explained that it was a joke, maybe not a good one but a joke. At least I didn't immediatley jump to the conclusion that a newbie was trying to get away with something.

All this has nothing to do with "jumping to conclusions."

Bottom line.....if there's a serious rules violation (especially related to selling) just click on "report" on the top blue line of the post and let the moderators handle it. They know exactly what to do.

That's the right thing to do.
