Here, without any further delay, are the date codes for 2007 through 2010. :D

The date code for 2007 is an arrow pointing down. 08 shows the arrow pointing right, 09 is an arrow pointing up and 2010 has the arrow pointing left. This does not follow the pattern of past year's codes and I will see if it would be a big deal to have it changed for 08 and on.
Look at each year from 1986 and on, they follow a pattern. Pointing left, then right, then up, then down. This holds true, with the exception of 2002 when we used the anvil instead of the symbol that would have come next.
Unfortunately, at least for guys like me that try to memorise the date codes for each year, in 2003 they broke the pattern. The symbol goes down, up, left, right and then for this year, it is another pattern altogether. Very confusing to my pointy little brain.

Thank you, Joe, for this information.

I was curious what sign or what kind of marks would come in the next years.

I like the arrows, because I like Archery. Looks the arrow like one for shooting?

Besr regards,
Herbert

humph.... grump.... still like the idear of roman numerials...
jest my .02 cents for 10 time maybe...
likely i will put it in tell i have a bucks worth! :)

Dave,
roman numbers on an American knife? Meine zwei Pfennige: The Arrow as a typical symbol for the native Americans would make more sense for a famous American product.

Best regards,
Haebbie

Thanks so much Joe.
It's not your call...but the upside down, laying left, right, point to mars gig is confusing...especially when ya tryto describe it here or verbally.
There are at least twobrazillion unique ASCII Characters that could've been used.
Oh well...it is what it is.

Thanks for the tip!!!

You know Joe, with a little bit of creativity, date codes could offer a whole new layer of collectibility to the hobby. What if Buck used the profile of a different state each year? Would that be cool or what? Or, how about the profile of a different critter each year...Deer, Elk, Ram, Rabbit, Duck! On the other hand, I guess arrows are a lot cheaper. :o

Ummm, *ahem*, why not just stamp the actual year? Example "110-07"?

The only reason I can think of is that people may not want to buy a "leftover" or last year's Buck. As it is now, most people don't have a clue when their knife was made.

I know we talked about doing a special project using an outline of each state as a blade stamp or etching. Dont know how that ended up except that I dont see any plans right now.
Putting the actual date, ie. 07 after the model number makes sense. You would not need a separate list, (which i keep right next to my Dave decoder ring :p :D ) to figure out when it was made. One negative thing I know will happen, because it already does with the symbols, I would be getting bags of phone calls from people wanting to know how there 110-07 is diferent from their 110-06. We get calls now from folks wanting info. They say, "the knife is a model 119 aye". We explain that the aye is just a date code, probably from 1988.
Another constraint is size. On the smaller knives, It is already hard to fit Buck, 305>, u.s.a. on the blade and have it readable and we dont want to have to stamp a blade more than once.
Having said all that, I bet we could get more creative than just a lazy >

Hey in 2005 you didn't went left what's the meaning of 2005 ???
I got it im my two 186

In 2005, to celebrate the fact that we had moved our factory to Idaho, we used an outline of the state as a date code instead of the sideways T.
Really cool!
