Two years ago when Buck first announced they were moving to Idaho, the citizens of Post Falls were elated. Great jobs, great pay, All bullshit. Now that the jobs are posted with Idaho Job service(www.labor.state.id.us) the hype is over. 95% of the great jobs are paying less than the Federal poverty level, less than $12,000.00 a year. The 8 or 9 remaining jobs posted are for collage graduates with 7 or 8 years experiance in knifemaking, get serious. Buck got tax breaks from the local government, Idaho State has the worst workers compensation laws in the US, they saved 85% on workers comp.
Idaho is the Tiawan of America, Buck knew that when they chose this place. Nothing happens for the benefit of the employee in Idaho, not even Buck.
And for the Idiot who sleeps in his car waiting for Buck to start hiring, you'll still be sleeping in it on $7.00 an hour. Go work at Costco, you'll still have to kiss ass, but everybody starts at $10.00 an hour there, even the cart pushers.

By my count there are still 145 jobs still posted.

Jobs that the state of Idaho didn't have before.

I have been at Buck for a little over a year. One thing I can say for the company is that it takes care of its employees. We have employees who have worked here for 30+ years. They started out with bottom end pay and worked their way up

We are hiring and training many people from scratch in the new location. People who have never built knives before. It takes alot of skill. I am not in HR, nor am I part of the production side of the company, but here is what I imagine the case will be;

Employees will start at their starting pay, and as they pick up skills and begin to excell at their job their pay will be addressed in the employee review process.

I can also tell you that the ability for advancement is very high at Buck. We have many supervisors and managers who started as assemblers. They did their job well and moved up the ladder. Hard work and performance are the key to improving pay in any career.

Buck treats its workers well and provides opportunities that you won't get at many other jobs.

The Idaho/ Tawain reference is pretty far off. I am sure plenty of Tawainese would love the opportunity to move to Idaho and work for Buck.

Thanks for the time,

P.S. The US Armed Forces are always hiring. I recommend the Marine Corps.
Go to www.marines.com and see if you have what it takes ;)
