Buck knives steel progression?

I keep a regular watch for the Schrades on the auction site, and probably 4-6 of the grooved bolster models show up per year. This past year I got one for $4.95 but of course it was in terrible condition. That was okay since my plan was to destroy it even more to show the construction. The bargains are the Schrade 301s without grooved bolsters. Most people don't recognize them.
