@ Buck Knives

I was bummed that so many of the things I wanted weren't in stock. None of the yellow handles slippies, the CSAR, or the black coated Paklites. Pretty much the things I wanted are out of stock.

Maybe that means I have good taste, but still bummed :-)

Alot of the knives that are out of stock are also newer models. The CSAR hasnt been overly available anywhere (IMHO) And the newer coated paklites and yellow slippies also. I was kickin around a new ergo folder, but those are new and not available either.

Thats my take for what its worth anyway...YMMV Just my .02 :D

Keep checkin' back ;)

On the other hand, supply and demand usually rules. Why sell the most coveted knife at a huge discount when people are lining up to buy it at full price?

My hunch is that the hot selling item will show up after the sale ends.

That's just normal (smart) business practice.

Sales are scheduled by the seller to benefit the seller, not the buyer.

This is all true, but I remember from my days in retail that a sale period would generate far more revenue than a non-sale period, despite the lower prices to customers. So it was a cash-boost and especially useful for low volume periods, a good way to keep the cash flow primed. Of course, following the sale you have a drop in revenue for a spell, but if it timed at an approaching peak season the lull is short. This is why some retailers always have sales rotation, so you can always advertise something on sale.

I don't know BKI's strategy, I'm just reflecting on some practices.

SO... to err on the safe side, keep checking!

P.S. This sale is not widely known. Most people shopping in stores and online won't even know about it.

I finally broke down and ordered one of the Burlwood Kalinga's. I really like that design! I don't know why they are more than the Palmwood one, but I just had to have one.

The palm wood was a LE of 1,000 whereas the burlwood Jaguar is a build-out. (There's a BO in the catalog number.) This would mean that there are far fewer burlwood ones. They were just using remaining stock for blades and wood. That's my guess.

I like the old Kalinga style, too. Just last night I was looking over my palm wood one trying to decide if I'll spring for the burl one. They would make a nice pair.
