Buck Marksman 830. Why?

I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I've always carried 110 variants or slip joints. I played with it a little bit at a show and while impressed with the way it was put together, I really didn't think it was for me.

I finally broke down and bought one, and I'm glad I did. There is a lot more to like about this knife than dislike.

The absolute only thing I don't care for about the stock version is the handle. I don't mind the aluminum, but the geometric shapes they cut into them make absolutely no sense to me. They're hard on the pockets and don't provide any useful traction that I can tell.

I've changed the handles on mine a couple of times. It's much easier on the pocket and the hand now.

Hey where did you get the scales for your marksman?I've been looking into getting some aftermarket scales for mine and couldn't seem to find any a set of black g10 or titanium ones would be awesome.

Hey made them.

Thanks.Did good job that's too bad though won't be able to find any for mine and not skilled enough to make my own for a folder.

It's the largest and heaviest pocket clip knife I own. Seems very strong, plenty sharp, good blade material, and the while the lock takes some getting used to it's pretty easy with just a bit of practice. I've been EDCing one for a while now and it's done everything I need.

I wasn't sure about the aluminum scales, but I'm warming up to them. I think something else would be better but they're not bad.

I'm extremely happy to find something this size that's a flipper and not a frame lock or a liner lock.

I've never tried one..But that might change as I have seen a few in the bay fishing.

Question:

Is the lock a variation of the ratchet/ring lock used on the Okapi, and Cold Steel Kudu/Eland?

(sorry. please forgive my impertinence for asking. :( to me, it looks like it operates the same way, just a different means of lifting the lock bar.)

I got the 830 Inferno from Skblades the one with orange G10 handle. It’s a nice sized knife with a 3.6 inch blade but still a nice carry. It seems stout enough and the S35vn blade cuts like a laser. My only kinda complaint is the jibbing is a bit aggressive and goes to far back but I can address that and smooth it down a bit. I hope that doesn’t affect the warranty. Also I’m not sure how the bearings are sealed and how much dirt and debris it can handle. I’ve never had it apart so maybe one of you kind gents can clue me in. Lol I’d like to use it more but I want to get more info before getting it in the environment. My son really likes it but he settled on the 110 slim pro for how it fits his pocket.

not really. this one is a closed or open locked design on bearings. its free moving outside of the locked open or locked closed. it's a g&g hawk design. only thing similar to the other one is the bar on top.
